I don't know if there's anyone here who can help. I offered to take a look at a friends PC after it he reported having dificulty accessing https pages on the web. I believe I have tracked the problem down (see link bellow) but am now faced with another. Cipher Strength Appears as 0-Bit in Internet Explorer[^] The solution described in the above MS KB describes replacing three DLLs. They are: schannel.dll rsabase.dll rsaenh.dll However, the PC is running ME and only came with a Restore CD and not a Windows ME install CD and the CABS are not on the hard drive. I've tried using Win98 equivelants but this did not work. Does anyone know where I can obtain these replacement DLLs? A few general suggestions: - Search the PC manufacturer's web site to see of they have the updates. - Contact the PC manufacturer and ask for the complete CD set. Most manufactures will supply this on request. - See if there are any MS service packs for ME that fixes the problem. - Buy a "gray market" copy of Windows ME at a PC show or swap meet. It cannot be more than $20.

Wayne Phipps wrote: CABS are not on the hard drive. You sure? The retail version of Windows Me installs them by default. Of course, if this is OEM restore disk/crap thingy there's no telling what's on there. They're not in the same directory that Win95 OEMs used to put them in however (C:\WINDOWS\Options\Cabs). I can't think of the dir off the top of my head, but did you search for *.cab in C:\WINDOWS yet? Jeremy Falcon

(hehehe, and people say Linux is unsupported) You can try using the restore CD on a Virtual PC or VMWare machine. If you have MSDN Universal, download ME from it. You can try using a friend's CD. Also, what if you just install the service pack update for IE6? Jeremy Falcon

Anyway i'm not aware that any manufacturer would normally post windows Dlls on thier site. Jeremy Falcon wrote: You sure? The retail version of Windows Me installs them by default Yeah but he's had the PC a couple of years and now he's let his kids start using it, maybe someone didn't think they were important and deleted them, i've searched the HD for any cabs WIN_X.CAB and there's none to be found. Jeremy Falcon wrote: what if you just install the service pack update for IE6? Done that, even tried a repair on IE but made no difference. But I think i'll take a look at the restore CD in more detail. It may even be an ISO image. I think I had an ISO image editor... I think this needs more investigaton on my part Daniel Turini wrote: You can try using a friend's CD. You can try using a P2P network (argh!
