I once got an error message from a 3rd party component: "Don't know what to do" Seriously?!

A junior programmer will not know this. They are applying for a JUNIOR programmer - they have no (or little) experience in these things. It's OK to know the basics, you don't want to hire someone who doesn't have a clue, but to ask from a junior programmer to elaborate on testing? I think you're asking too much. :)
