The AdRotator has a specific, well-documented XML file schema that wouldn't work with Flash files. The concept is similar, though, just that instead of outputting IMG tags you'd need to output OBJECT tags with the right attributes (like the CLSID of the Macromedia Flash player, the codebase, and the src as a PARAM). This wouldn't be too difficult to implement, but if you're interested, download .NET Reflector[^] and see how the AdRotator works, duplicating the code for the most part, except of course for Flash-specific settings in the XML file (or whatever you want to use - I would recommend using the provider pattern) and the output HTML. You should ask this on the ASP.NET forum, though. Besides being the proper forum for this question (since it is regarding ASP.NET, not a specific language), someone might've already done this. It really doesn't matter what the connection device is. So long as you're connected, you can use a myriad of classes to transfer files. You could create a simple TCP socket connection using the TcpClient class, for example. If an accessible share exists on one or the other machine (or both), then you can simply use File.Copy to copy files, although this typically won't work because of default security (and anonymous write permissions are too risky). You could also go all-out and create a .NET Remoting client/server between the two, transfering files as byte[] arrays, or better yet use DIME (part of the WSE 2.0, which you can download from MSDN[^]. DIME gets around serialization, which is a big performance boost. So, just forget that a modem is connecting to the two clients and use whatever class(es) you'd like. So long as TCP/IP is the protocol connecting the clients, your options are many; otherwise, you'll need to create a Socket connection with the correct AddressFamily. int.Parse throws a FormatException when given a zero length string so that check is definitely necessary (at least it is for my application)

The easiest way for Access is to simply copy an empty access database (or a "template" with your data structures but no data) using filecopy. ADO.Net doesn't support "create Database" for Acess (actually it is the underlying oledb provider that doesnt support this), and the ADOX "create catolog" stuff isn't there either. The problem may lie in the fact that static variables are initialized only once, so they can cause confusion: void foo() { static int n = 0; ... } When you see a method like that in C++, you need to keep in mind that the statement is only executed the first time the method is called. The casual (or careless) observer may not be aware of that, and erroneously think the method executes every time -- I'm pretty sure it's happened to me before :-O. Besides the .NET Framework (which MUST be installed), you can use touchless deployment by writing your application correctly, i.e. rely on .config files only (no registry). The application I architected runs both from local or LAN machines, or from across the Internet or an intranet with no change. The assembly binding uses the current codebase of the application plus any private paths your config files specifies (see the <runtime> section documentation in the .NET Framework SDK). You also need to worry about code access permissions, though. In .NET 1.0, the default Internet Zone allows no code to run. In .NET 1.1 some basic permissions are granted to code running from the Internet. You can change or add these code policies, though. There is plenty of documentation about code access security in the .NET SDK Documentation. Just look for "code access security". I'm also working on an extensive article or chain of articles but it'll be some time. It's important to read, though, because you really must understand them before using them. You don't want to open someone's machine to attach by accident, and you want to make your application work with different permissions granted, i.e. some are required and some are optional. Take a look at the System.Security.Permissions namespace classes for more information about this stuff, as well as the documentation for code access security. If you don't need to run from a remote source, you don't necessarily have to worry about it (although it's still a good idea to check permissions in your app before executing an action that requires them, otherwise a SecurityException is thrown). Just use COPY/XCOPY to copy your apps and dlls to the local machine and make sure they are in the right place. You can leave all the exes and dlls together with no problem.
