  • Best city to work?
    A Andrew 0

Am thinking of moving (gotta love the IT industry!) and was wondering what are the best cities are. SF is fun, but hieneously expensive, Atlanta sounds miserable, but maybe something like somewhere in Canada or the UK - or even Sydney, Australia? (Looked mighty fine during the Olympics!

  • .NET bound to fail...
    A Andrew 0

Hi, I can see your point, but I have to disagree - because Microsoft are opening up their specifications so others can write .NET servers for any OS they want. Eventually the .NET runtime will be available on diverse operating systems such as Linux or whatever OS your into. Also, I have to admit, I'd prefer to use Windows rather than other OSes at present, esp. Win2K, which I have not managed to crash yet. Don't get me wrong though - I'm not putting down Linux - I think it's a perfectly strong and capable OS. Andrew

  • Multiple Threads
    A Andrew 0

Hi, I have a few questions about Multi-threading with MFC. 1. With the function you supply in the first parameter of AfxBeginThread, - the new thread calls this function- if you have multiple threads calling this function, is a new instance of the function created or is it used by all threads? ie AfxBeginThread( UpdateClients, this ) If you create 3 threads, do these 3 threads all share the same instance of UpdateClients? Wouldn't make a lot of sense if they did...but just curious. 2. I'm creating a client/server application which has basic transfer/sending capabilities. I was intending to create a seperate thread for each dialog box used to indicate how much a file has been sent/receive. What is the best method for doing this? Should I use CWinThread? The tutorials for using GUI threads confused me more. Thanks for your Help

  • Resizing Icons
    A Andrew 0

Is there any easy way to resize an icon to 16x16 or a custom size through a windows function. I can think of a few ways to do this the long way ( one involving the use stretchblt on memory DC's ). Basically I'm using these icons with my own subclassed buttons. Thanks.
