Here at work we make heavy user of Pivot Tables, Power Pivot and Power View. Does Libre Office (or Open Office) have an equivalent? Can Libre Office even open Excel files that make use of them?

What's everyone's opinion of OpenOffice vs. LibreOffice? -

Good grief MS, why?...which is great when the designers aren't trend-following slaves and actually know their backside from their elbow.

McAfee VirusI don't know. Well, probably because it's an SSD any I/O impact would be minimized. I put the two second increase down to having to load and initialize Avira: my E6750 ran at 100% during boot up before installing Avira and now it has another program to load at startup (it only has two cores.)

McAfee VirusNope, not Avira. I noticed maaaaybe a 2 second increase in boot time. (Win10 x64, E6570, 4GB RAM, 120GB SSD as C: ) Edit: Also, if you're looking at a corporate/enterprise AV product, cast an eye towards Sophos. I've had previous experience with them and can (and am :-)recommend them.

To script or not to script...I would prefer to do it in a compiled .NET application because I'm more familiar with C# than scripting languages and, as you pointed out in a later post, memory management is (IMHO) better in .NET. However, whatever you choose to do, MAKE SURE THAT YOU WRITE TESTS FOR IT so that eight months down the line you can catch any bugs that the "tiny little small change" that you need to do might introduce.
