  • Commentaries - above or below the code?
    A Anton Afanasyev

I can see why things like this may be done - the programemr first writes code, then comments it. This may (theoretically) benefit the original programmer in that the code is fresh in his memory, and writing a comment to reflect what it does may "force" him to spot subtle errors. (Of course, same can be said about the traditional "above"-style commenting, but I think the "below"-style makes sense here). I think the "below" style would also benefit a new programmer trying to understand or debug the code - she reads the code, understands (hopefully) it, and then reads the intention - if they dont match, well, there's clearly a problem with the code. How's that for a possible "why?" ?

I believe you can enable all the shininess for Win2008, and when connecting over RDP from Vista and above, it will render all the shinines. I think Aero will even have transparencies if the graphics card on the client supports it.

  • ASP.Net 3.5 hosting - looking for suggestions
    A Anton Afanasyev

Hmm, that actually looks great! I'm looking through all the options, and so far it seems better than all the other hosting solutions I've found. The site I'm developing _is_ a business one, but I am fairly certain that the Personal class plan will do just fine, seeing that there isnt too much going on on the site from the technical point of view. Do they have an upgrade option, in case I'll need to? Thanks for the suggestion. Will wait for a few more just in case, but this surely beats anything else I've found and will likely be the site I'll go with. Thanks.

  • ASP.Net 3.5 hosting - looking for suggestions
    A Anton Afanasyev

I am in the process of developing a website with ASP.NET MVC, and I need a reliable host for it. I will also need an MS SQL 2005+ database. I've found a few, such as discountasp.net and webhost4life.com. The first one seems OK, but I am just not sure what the normal price for this is, so was looking for more options. webhost4life certainly seems cheaper, and offers significantly more DB space. However, most of the few reviews that I found for webhost4life seem to indicate that it may not be such a good option. Soo..does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Something tells me that with the conversions like pounds=>meters, and feet=>newtons, its going to take a heck of a lot more than 370 million $.

One possible reason may be that the PDF document was focused, but the mouse was over the MS Word window, and while it was sendting scrolling events to the PDF document, the Word application was picking them up as well, since the mouse was over it. Ive had something similar happen to me, except with different apps.

Not sure what the deal is, but Win7 has some nice "Send Feedback" links on all the titlebars, so its really easy to report issues to Microsoft.

I believe they've always had that in their Betas. if it annoys you, its possible to turn it off in the registry: http://www.downloadsquad.com/2009/01/22/how-to-remove-windows-7-send-feedback-watermark-text/[^]

Mind sharing the knowledge? ;) Daemon Tools not working under 7 is one of the few things stopping me from installing Win7 as my primary OS. If I knew what to use instead, I'd be typing this from Win7 now (or, to be more correct, I wouldn't be typing this at all :D)

  • .net performance test. Can you guess which method is the most efficient?
    A Anton Afanasyev

So true. At my previous-previous job, I kinda did my version of databinding, which turned out to be at least twice as fast as MS' implementation. Funny thing, I didnt understand databinding that well to begin with, which made me do my own implementation, which turned out to be faster. And then a new dude joined, and I was being heavily criticized for rolling my own. Good thing it would take too long to change to databinding. heh.
