  • Enough Soccer!
    B BigAllyP

First things first. When we invented the game we called it football. It's called football in most countries of the world. It is really irritating when thick Yanks that know nothing about the game call it soccer. It's also really irritating when they don't know the name of the countries that border their own and bomb countries because they have oil but this is a discussion about football. Secondly, I have seen a broad range of topics discussed here on matters other than software. Why suddenly pick on football for being off topic. Is that because you know nothing about it? Just because the mighty USA are not interested, the majority of the other 99% of us are. Maybe you could bomb all the countries that are interested in football. Aren't there Yank(American, whatever) sites to which you can post these rants.

Congratulations. Now that you're an American..... Mexico is the bit at the bottom and Canada is the bit at the top.

You might want to carry an atlas with you so you can show folks where you're from. Be patient, they may not be familiar with the concept of other countries. Be prepared for an astonishing level of ignorance. "Do people from Scotland have electricity?" was my personal favourite. All Americans are dangerous religous fanatics. You are from another country so it will be assumed that you are either a terrorist or an illegal immigrant. Both are as welcome as a dose of the clap. You should buy a gun and shoot them before they shoot you. They do this all the time so you should not have any problems. Ally

  • Food habits
    B BigAllyP

My diet is absolutely crap. If I eat breakfast at all it usually involves bacon, eggs, cheese and bbq sauce. I have fast food every lunch. I try to avoid burgers and stick to at least semi healthy sandwiches or noodles. I normally skip dinner during the week because I do so little exercise that if I did eat another meal I'd be the size of a whale. I'm trying to eat fruit as a snack now instead of chocolate or chips. Other than that, caffeine and nicotine are the corner stones of my diet. The end result is I guess, I look pretty healthy. I'm not overweight at all. I'll probably be lucky to make 50 though. Ally

  • How worthwhile is MS certification for CVs/interviews and payscales?
    B BigAllyP

I did my MCSD in India and I reckon one place will be much the same as the next there. If you don't know your stuff before you go then you're not going to get much out of it other than a certificate. I spent the month of my boot camp in a one on one training environment. I sacked my first trainer and the second was little better. He read from the books parrot fashion and I probably taught him more about VB.NET than he taught me. Is it worth it. If you're paying bugger all for it (in Western terms) in India where there is the probability of minimal investment in time as well then definitely. Downside is your conning everyone. If you have no experience and are trying to get in then it probably has some value. If you're having to do the work and spend the money then I wouldn't bother. The syllabus is mostly rubbish. I now work for a software development company in Australia and the work I do goes far beyond the MCSD. Spend the time learning the material (exclude the analyzing requirements book), don't bother with the certificate and spend the money on going to India anyway. It's a fantastic place. Allister

With the US military at his disposal, why would Dubya want to bother with flying cars?
