Turns out I had a few minor errors in the VB code. I found all of them, and cleaned up the code while I was finding them. It all works as it should. I learned a lot with this little project. It was a cascade with a C# app calling a VB.NET dll which in turn called a licensed COM library. So there was lots of opportunity to get the code wrong. Thanks for the help.

I found that Visual Studio has a tool accessible from the context menu to generate the interface. I run into obstacles often when I build a C# library for COM and try to use it in Excel. I have two such libraries with interfaces that appear to be identical in format. One works with Excel, the other does not. However, the one that doesn't work using an interface works OK when I remove the interface. But then nothing is available for VBA intellisense. And the functions don't show in the object explorer with either version. Is there a good book or reference that carefully and fully explains building C# libraries for use with Excel VBA?

Nathan, Thanks for your affirmation. With the pace of change to web development things might look quite different in a couple years. So it seems that there is no easy transition. And you are right about convincing management. Because that is me, and I am also the owner. I built the site 10 years ago and have progressively upgraded content and function. This is a hobby, and so far some of the applications are free. But not the best stuff, which requires a subscription. I think what I will do is wait until the site no longer functions with developing technology. At that point, depending on when it comes, I'll move the applications to a cloud. Everything that is on the site I also have a desktop windows form application. I think that this can be served to clients securely so that the apps cannot be copied and distributed at will. My current project is to use SQLight with some of my applications that now use MS Access. But it seems that Microsoft doesn't play nicely with it. Sometimes it works; sometimes not.

That's all it took. Of course, the project needs to add the library for SQLite. Now I am working to populate a combobox with unique values from a column in the database table. Thanks.

Anurag, Thank you. The chart is not dynamically populated and contains whatever is the default. I have the same application on windows form and the entire chart shows. So, I am still puzzled as to why the chart does not show in its entirety on the web page designer. Maybe I don't have something that is quite right. But, for now I can live with it. I have a similar application using VS 2010 and .net 3.5. But I use images instead of the chart. But I cannot find how to add a point on the image with java script (or otherwise). I'm searching, though. Using the chart I would like to add some labels within the chart areas, but I haven't found a way to accomplish this. Any advice on either?

Ryan, Thank you. I resolved the issue thus: Loaded Visual Web Developer 2008 and added chart control to the toolbox. Opened VS 2010, unchecked chart controls from the Add Controls Dialog. Then added them back. Voila! Now the chart control appears in the vs 2010 toolbox. Windows update kept trying to install update for the control, and failed for 5 days. Now the update should work. Hope this helps anyone who is experiencing a similar problem. Bobby

Are there any run-time dependencies you might have missed? Try downloading the SysInternals Suite[^] from MS TechNet - it's free and incredibly useful for tracking down problems like this. Have a look at the Process Explorer and Process Monitor parts of the suite - doesn't take long to get up and running.

Simeon, Thank you for responding. I should have been more specific in my question. What I want to do is to maintain scroll position on post-back. But, strangely enough, my pages are now maintaining position on post-back. When I first had the problem several years ago, I added an AJAX update panel to solve the issue. When I recently updated one of the pages, it didn't maintain position even though it still has an update panel. Everything seems to be working fine now on all my pages, those with the update panel and those without it. So I have moved on to my next challenge. My site on GoDaddy won't run with .NET 4, even though it is compiled by VS 2010 to target .NET 4. But, this compilation still runs under 3.5. And, I have another question for JavaScript to resolve some other issues. Maybe you will take a look at that subject, too. Thanks for your help. I'll file your response so I can readily retrieve it. After further study, the checkbox change event is triggered during form load. So its handler is executed. I didn't realize that this is normal behavior. I already have a hidden label on the form that is used for another purpose, so I set the text during form load before enabling the checkbox, then skipped the message box display in the handler based on the value. I don't understand enough about senders and sender arguments, but this is probably the professional approach. So I learned a few new things. Thank you both. Bobby

Thank you both for your prompt response. I'll look into the newer versions. I am using VS210 pro on my desktop, so I wanted the same for my new notebook. I will forgo installation on the notebook for now. My next chore is to see if the installer is still trying to install it. I canceled the installation but a dialogue said it would complete the installation of the current module. But I finally had to shutdown windows installer because it was still working away. There seems to still be a lot of machine activity with windows installer worker. I hope I don't have a Freddy Kruger here. Bobby
