This had been bothering me and I went to look at my settings ... and I'd been randomly removed. I'd never have done that, but have added myself back. Looks like it doesn't matter because the Insider is not going out anymore?

Chewing gumFor what it's worth, xylitol is deadly toxic to dogs. So make sure you don't spit that out where they might get hold of it.

I also often use Yandex.ru on my cell phone. It makes a big difference.
I wouldn't use anything.ru if there's any way to avoid it.

password reset: please commiserate with meI suppose that's unpleasant, but password managers exist to avoid this scenario. Some are even free!

Oh, that's so much worse. And so much better, all at the same time.I like having Phone Link, but I dumped it. It is territorial about its Bluetooth connections, especially with an iOS device. I found that unless I turn off my PC, or at least its Bluetooth, my iPhone won't play nice with other devices because W11 is too greedy with its connection. I would try to answer my phone in my front yard - 80 feet away - and I would have to remember to change the call to use my phone's audio. None of my macOS connections did this, nor any other device I've ever had. Somehow iOS logic can't deal with the way Windows handles things.

MFC? WinForms? I gotta ask... why? You're not wrong about the learning curve part. WPF's learning curve isn't horrific, but it's more work than not using it. But the biggest reason IMO is how long it takes to do things in WPF. What is your app for? Will a shiny WPF interface make it work better or more productive? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the majority of the time the answer is no. Yoda knew the answer: Winforms is "quicker, easier, more seductive."

I love regular expressionsIt won't identify them, but it'll match them. Getting it to assign that value or print it out involves more code not related to regex.

Is there a white paper explaining why Team Foundation Version Control sucks ?I wish I could say that my experience was that TFS "just worked", because I found the opposite to be true. I've used (and administrated) all of these source control systems: * Perforce * ClearCase * TFS * git (in CLI and also via BitBucket, GitLab, GitHub) * svn * SourceSafe (which is by far the worst of all of these) * MKS Source Integrity * PVCS * CVS * sccs * CMS (VAX) Of these, TFS is a bottom-quartile experience. If you're heavily into the Windows dev train, then it bumps up in usefulness just a hair, but it still sucks. There are 3 items on this list that I'd quit my job over rather than use again, and TFS is one of them.

Hiding the keyOh man, but then you gotta add an OCR library to the application, and maybe some Google photo captchas.

Technology is saving you from profound levels of boredom and it's a problemIronically, I generally was never bored before technology took over my life, because I was reading. Still largely true even with technology available.

DVD BackupsI've used their Mac version for years. It works great. They'll keep offering you upgrades but I'll bet you never need one.

I don't like code reviewsCode reviews WILL catch things that are wrong. Not just that could use improvement. That's not arrogance. It's teamwork.
-
I don't like code reviewsMaybe you work for a code effort where you are the only coder who will ever touch your code. Great for you. But if there's even a small chance your co-worker has to understand your code? Then it's not arrogant to expect it to make sense to a larger audience. It's common sense and good teamwork. I've been in this business a long damned time and I've seen what happens with and without reviews. I'll take the shop that does reviews, thanks. I would be arrogant if I thought my code should be untouchable.
