Yes I know. But now it's difficult for me to find that window using spy++. The windows appears to be hidden, but it may already be destroyed. If it's destroyed when losing focus, I can't find it using spy++. But I really want to find that window and find its class name, window text, ect, which info I can use to find them by code. So.. Here are some performance readings which i took for CArray and std::vector Time taken to add 1 million elements( unsigned long ) CArray = 2.7360s ( 2736 ms ) //Will be faster if you set the size using SetSize() vector = 0.0210s ( 21 ms ) //Will be faster if you set the size using reserve() CList = 0.0260s ( 26 ms ) std::list = 0.1220 ( 122 ms ) CMap = 0.0820 ( 82 ms ) // Used InitHashTable( 200017 ) or else it will take ages to add elements stl::map = 0.0399 ( 399 ms ) Though STL is not as well structured or as easy to use as MFC but performance wise they win hands down. Note: Will using STL access the elements using iterators. It will be very fast.

If you're using Windows CE up to 5.0 then you've simply run up against the 'can't use more than one east asian language' (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) limitation which is built into CE. It sounds more like XP in which case your problem would likely be with the default code page as I think that's what's being set in the dialog you mention. Somewhere in your code the default code page is being referenced in a conversion from UNICODE to ANSI characters and setting it to non English is messing up one set of characters or the other. I suspect that when the default code page is English Windows can detect Chinese and Korean characters because they're all 'invalid' in the old ASCII range but when it's Chinese the Korean character values look valid. (Beause of CJK shared characters some of them probably are ). To be safe accross Windows systems that default to all 3 languages you'll need to find the conversion that's failing and preferably avoid it altogether. Remember to separate what you see (glyphs from a font) from the code points that are being represented. I find it helps to try and think in code points but that's really difficult if you're looking at your native language. I18n is hard, good luck. Nothing is exactly what it seems but everything with seems can be unpicked.

Yes there is overhead on performance. But it is very important to understand the virtue/performace relation when using virtual functions. I mean, one should avoid using virtual functions in low level operations such as accessing each character in a sequence. But for not so heavy and/or intensive operations you can [and sometimes should] ignore performance issues. As for MFC, a good candidate area of using virtual functions is message handlers. But MFC refused virtual functions and used message maps. Really, so many classes with so many virtual functions would indeed decrease speed and increase memory usage. -- ===== Arman
