The max key-word is specified in BOL but it also indicates I should done a sp_tableoption with one of the parameter values "large value types out of row". This is not working as the value does not exists. I will appreciate some guidence on how to enable this data type.

To contract or not?I've been a contracting now for almost 20 years. About 5 yrs ago I was in a bad position where I worked on a big project for 1.5 yrs. During this time I had no time to search for other contracting work and the bad part, when I finished the project, I was left with no job for 8 months. Very... Very bad... But then I found another job, A PERMANENT job !!! Working there for one year, I one morning got a letter on my table stating, sorry we are closing down the department, you are not required anymore, you have ONE MONTH. I was without a job again for 3 months and then was lucky to get three contracts and is now outsourcing. Let me tell you the lessons I've learned, NEVER depend only only on one client, while contracting look for the next contract, you MUST always be in a position where you can choose between two or more contracts. There is NO JOB SECURITY with a permanent job, having my permanent job gave me a one month notice, while contracting I have a minimum of three to six month notice of no work. Generally you score on tax if you contract, specially if you have more than 3 clients. Well, country laws depict this. Anyway, the best part.... you are not working for somebody else. Enjoy, go contracting, it is worth it and very interesting. cheers

MoonlightingWe encourage our employees to moonlight. The restriction is, let your employer know, at least there is no customers been "stolen". The problem is that, moonlighting WILL eventually grow into the moonlight customer phoning / email for changes and "quick" assistance during the day. This does interfere with our employees daily work. We found that several employees had to solve problems during day time secretly wich puts pressure on both employer and employee. If an arrangment is made where the employee keep the employer involved then we do not mind making the odd commitment to allow software tools and other infrstructure such as boardrooms, tel, fax, etc to be used. This helps in several ways: 1. The employee can earn some extra 2. The company get some exposure - advertising 3. The possibility of the project growing into a company solution proved viable. 4. All parties are happy !!!! if point 3 is happening, we usally have a % proffit / bonus to the employee. This comming from an ex-moonlighter, so I know how I felt at the time when I had to moonlight. Seeing both side of the picture, being there, done that, playing open cards is by far the better option. Regards Francois Kotze www.flexyware.com

What constitutes a professional application?I guess, he must then go and read the manual for more help. Think about it, how easy and obvious do you make any tasks ? Do you add button after button on the toolbar so that every task is covered?. From my experience, making it "to easy" for the user just cluters the toolbars etc. Face it, Take MS Excel as an example. Different people use it for different tasks. Now do I add a button for each and every task that can be performed. That includes a button for each possible formulae, or do I only add menu options for the "key" functions, like "sum". You guys know what, searching for a specific button, I actually came accross some "hidden" features in Excel, that I never would have known about. So there is advantage in sometimes "hiding" information. How deep you hide it, that is the question at hand. The detail should be described in a help file. But I guess, the way this thread is going, we will soon see the question "What if the user does not know how to use help screens"..... cheers, happy professional coding....
