The installation of Windows 10 was easy and smooth. It ended serious update troubles with Windows 8.1. But there is a Windows 7 system which I want to keep. It proved difficult to stop the upgrades nagging...

Do you hide extensions of known types?The default settings are not made for programmers - they're outnumbered. If an "office" user could see the extension along with the file name, he could easily change both. His document is "lost" because the system can no longer associate a program. He will call for help... :doh: (I do change the settings on my own computer).

VW Blames The Programmers!!!Are they foolhardy or just desperate? Some "rogue" programmer might have documented the assignment. Any civil servant would certainly have done so. And if the effect really was neglible, why ever take the risk?:~

Question on variable naming style (i.e. r versus random)In loops, "i" and "k" are my gold standard. I'm more verbose in any other place, but "random" might be just the first version. "Self-explanatory" names are subject to refactoring...

Customized PCsToday I would start with an affordable system from a local store, sometimes there are pretty good „special offers“. Then add or change parts. It takes time and I’m not so sure wether I save any money. But You get a very customized PC.
