The error message[^] is nothing to do with Visual Studio, it's produced by the Assembler; you can verify that by assembling the files outside of VS. As to why this should cause an error, I'm afraid it's some years since I worked on MASM. You could review exactly where the message occurs, and what output listing the assembler produces. MPL is fine, I generally don't modify open source code anyways, so being required to submit fixes is no problem. And honestly, as long as it isn't copyleft, I'm usually comfortable with it. (LGPL is fine, because of it's loopholes, as is GPL on whole applications, but otherwise GPL/AGPL is a red flag.)

I was just thinking to have a separate utility/tool like IL dissambler, which will verify the given code file and suggest the possible way of optimizations rather than the compiler doing the job. Then, if we like we can consider some of them or all suggestions and take the appropriate action (changes to the code) manually rather than letting the tool/compiler do it automatically. I agree. That's one of the reasons I don't want to use the GPL. I have no problem if people use my code alongside their own proprietary code. What I do want is to make sure that if they find anyway to improve my code (i.e. modify it) that they are obligated to put it under the same license.
