Yeah! Go VisualAssist! I love that tool. I particularly love their VA Outline pane - makes grokking a file *so* much quicker! (P.S. - I still don't get why people prefer 6 over 2005/2008 versions of the IDE ... I think they must have .NET/C# profiled install instead of a C++ one :^) )

I would also recommend Fogbugz if you are just tracking IT tickets. Our company just did the whole evaluation thing and decided to go with VisionProject ( www.visionproject.se[^] ) as it had the closest feature set/nice interface that we wanted. Another open source one to consider besides Mantis or Trac (bugzilla is ugly and horrible) is redmine - www.redmine.org[^] . This is shaping up very nicely and I'll be very interested to see what it looks like once it reaches version 1.0 . Cheers, JT.

  • Wow - had to use Yahoo for searching :-)
    J jonty2

Yay! Go Yahoo search results - I find them waaaay above google's when it comes to looking for local stuff (australia). As in , real stuff like 'where is that wine from?'. My rule - google for finding technical information, localised yahoo for finding real-world stuff / local companies websites.

Generics I assume you are talking about templates, not .NET That could be true, our code base does not use a lot of templates (especially not extended template stuff like partial specialisation ) due to the very wide-ranging compile environments it needs to work in. So would not have really tested Star's capability there.

For free it's hard to beat StarUML. http://www.staruml.com/[^] It's C++ reverse engineering I have to say is pretty darn good (which is something about it that interests me. Dunno know what you might be interested in). General UML functions are fine.

  • Microsoft causing lost productivity. A rant.

You can correct the Windows explorer freeze on network hiccup - you can tell it to darn well *do not * go checking the network shares all the time - some registry setting somewhere, sorry you'll have to google for the exact setting. A long time ago I did that and makes my life so much better!
