  • Microsoft causing lost productivity. A rant.
    L LeonardReinhart

one of the microsoft bloggers posted that an effort is underway to make a stripped down, fast operating system. That would be nice. Then they would need to go after office. So far VS2008 RTP has been behaving, but I'm not in too deep yet, still looking at the new goodies like LINQ and the SharePoint support. Silverlight 1.1 has me cautiously optimistic.

  • Missing LINQ?
    L LeonardReinhart

LINQ is sweet. It allows you to drag and drop tables and stored procedures onto a work surface that causes objects to be built that will interface with the database. Can you say business objects? You can then take those objects and drop them on a form and create either multiple entry (grid) or single entry representations of the tables. You can then display table data and update it back in the database without writing any code. Fairly complex data binding can be accomplished by editing properties on the fields. The business objects can have code added to them that reflects business logic. Acropolis is nice and Silverlight 1.1 is really nice and will run anywhere when the Moonlight version is complete. -- modified at 8:41 Tuesday 25th September, 2007

  • Developer's Age !
    L LeonardReinhart

I will be 61 in a few days and have gone a complete cycle. I programmed, was technical lead, systems advisor, project manager, consultant, teacher and am a Systems Engineer/Architect that programs. The whole time I programmed to one degree or another. Experience both in programming and life is a good thing. Keeping a good attitude becomes a life outlook. It is your choice. :)

I have seen that but never used it. As for the crap it appears that even if you say do not install on Dell's customize at least for a laptop some of the crap still gets installed.

  • Programming books.
    L LeonardReinhart

I use books to kick start new endevors. If I pick up a new tool like SQL Server 2005 I pick up a couple of books to get me started. No point in reinventing the wheel. Right now I like Windows Forms 2.0, Data Binding with Windows Forms 2.0, Hitchhikers Guide to Visual Studio amd SQL Server, and Pro VS 2005 Reporting Using SQL Server and Crystal Reports.
