I total agree with you Salvo I think Mr. Khawaja should give us some more specific arguments. Najmul, Open-source linux developers, although maby more numerous, are not the only open-source developers out there! Just look at this site, there is a great number of open-source and free software for windows. Most of the big name open-source products, Mozilia, OpenOffice, PHP and even apache have windows versions. Linux and windows are two diffrent platforms for two diffrent types of people. There are goods and bads about both. Win2000 server may be better for big sites like the CodeProject, while Apache is free and good for amatures and small busines. Apache still has professinal applications though along with linux. Maby MS does steal technology, but in the entire history of computers, 'stealing' is not someting that only MS does! Steve Jobs got the whole GUI scoop from Xerox many years ago, then gates took it from him. Linux has its bugs along with windows. Red Hat makes mistakes too. There are known bugs in Linux. Some of these bugs are mistakes by the developers. This is 'human error', no? -- Martin

Server WarsHi Everyone, I'm wondering what you all think about how to host websites. On one side theres MS with IIS. That's on the expensive side though. You need IIS and Win2k / NT. How many people vouch for Apache? Is UNIX, the grandaddy or OSs better than NT Server, or is it worth the $$$ to use NT? CGI/PHP vs. ASP? How do these technologies scale up vs. each other? -- Mart

Record from a video cameraHi, I really do not think that this can be done simply with a code snipit. You will have to use a ActiveX control, this could get a little expensive. Check out this site, it may have a listing of such controls: http://www.programmersparadise.com/ Hardware is another consideration Good luck, -- Marty

Idea for Left Nav BarHello, Just and idea - make the nav bar on the side like on one on webmonkey http://www.webmonkey.com, ie when you click on a header it expands a list. This would make all thoose sections fit in better and it would be easier to find things instead of scrolling around. --Marty

Writing a prog. that locks the comp.IK, Well to tell you the truth I've been wanting to write one of theese for myself for quite some time. Heres what you do: - Prevent escape keystrokes (CTRL ALT DEL, ALT F4 ect) - Size the window to full screen and prevent the user from using the start menu -have the program start at system startup to prevent the computer from being restarted in order to access the system It's that simple! As for hiding the start menu/taskbar, thats as far as I got, I dont know how to do that. Maby I could send you someting by e-mail if anyone else hasen't already done this in VB. -- Marty

Developing Professional Appications in VBHello, Well I don't know about what VB programmers do mostly but as for VB being used in commercial applications I find the possibilllity quite likely. Check out Steve McMahon's vbAccelerator: http://www.vbaccelerator.com/ "This site is here to help you break through VB's limits and provide some solid source code to base modern applications around. Everything here is free and comes with full source code." I agree with "VB *retard*", MFC is better than VB. I've done a few projects with VB and I like its easy syntax, maby a bit too easy... The VB runtime library is a bit big also, it can get annoying. Vb's best use is for VBA and for Database apps. -- Marty I can't wait to see VB7
