Im using VS2005 and Eclipse + several DB solutions depending on the project. If you work a lot with (multiple) VMWare (VM's ), you should consider a stronger setup. The setup I am using is a Windows XP 64 PRO, AMD Athlon 4800 X2 , 4 GB RAM, , 1 x 160 GB 7200 SATA II (as boot partition), 1 x L1 RAID ( 2x 160 GB 7200 SATA II for SourceSafe, DB and other Data files) Since last year August (where I build it) I did not find a situation where I would say it not suitable for a developer.

The follow-ups will not be calculated in the statistic if you have selected NO. The survey will not blend out questions for you even if you select NO. Instead just skip those (as many many other people did already). Nothing is assumed up-front. What we do is to care about your view. And I can tell you this much : This topic generated a very wide range of opinions. However your input is valid - I understand it could be confusing. If you care just give it another try. Thanks

Rob, The survey is based on a pre-test performed earlier on. It is as well based on former studies and publications in this area. However, you are absolutely right that many people are honest to there bones. Some of them have even been punished for this … Many factors have an influence, for example: Size of the company or team Multi national and cultural distribution The hierarchical position of the survey participant (means how much visibility he has) Whether responsibility over others exists (like a team or project lead who could risk loosing some of his bodies if he does not lie …) and many more ... This is a very complex and controversial topic and was expected to be one.

This is a very good question (and was one of the very first one which came into my mind )! We are not sure ... but statistically the majority of people who feel strongly about this topic will tell there view (which is maybe not the real truth...). The rest simply does not care enaugh .
