It was a sad day when towards the end of life of the Amiga, they changed that text. :C

  • How do I commit myself to side-projects?
    M mBuchwald

I... really liked the Amiga. I would be strangely fine with this.

  • What's your definition of a "senior" developer?
    M mBuchwald

Developer who has outlasted all the other developers at the company.

    The Lounge question

  • 1 = 0
    M mBuchwald

This appears to work, but only because you are dividing by zero since (x-y) is, by definition of the first line, equal to zero.

This is only true if it isn't you first time building the code. If you get zero errors on the first try, paranoia begins.

Whiteboard and a digital camera (at least until I have a whiteboard that can print itself out). Or paper/napkin and pencils/pens

    The Lounge question

  • Cancel - OK
    M mBuchwald

I agree that it should have been standardized to match the platform (Windows) your software runs on. Changing it now would be an annoyance to your users initially, but they'd get used to that. That said, is it worth the time to do it? Well, you'd have to determine that. That said, the appropriate thing to do is use your time machine to go back and tell your designers to do it "right " the first time. ;)

  • For those of you who work for yourself - contractor or business owner - vacation question
    M mBuchwald

Budget appropriately. Know how much you are likely to make in a given week (or however much time you wnat to be able to take off), and then know how much the vacation will cost you, and then save that amount. Put it into its own savings or money market account, or even just a jar in your house. Then when you have enough and aren't in the midst of a project that mustgetdonenow, you take your vacation. A portion of that amount will be giving you 'paid vacation' and the rest will pay for your vacation.

    The Lounge question business

  • Testers coding bug fixes directly?
    M mBuchwald

So long as it gets marked as 'submitted for QA review' (or however your process works) and someone else in QA has to review and verify it is fixed, then I don't see any real problem. Also assumes (ha!) he sticks to what his proficiency allows him to understand.
