Step through the code with a debugger, generate a smaller sample to easily step through. You have been asking the same questions for some time now. Realistically, the best way to do this is to create a class for each shape you want to draw, with a common base class, and make a list of that base class. Then you can make the class know how to build itself from the string you store in your file, and to generate a string which identifies the shape type and the details of that shape. I'd go for something less verbose, you really only need to store numbers, just assign each shape type a number. Or create a class that contain all the relevant details of the shapes like: class BaseClass { int shapeType; } class Circle:BaseClass { Point pt; int radius; other properties like color,etc. } class Line:BaseClass { Point p1,p2; ------------ ------------ } class _shapes { Arraylist allShapes; } Create an object for _shapes class; Finally, serialize the object and store it is a text file and again construct the object by deserializing. Hi. If you are still looking for help saving your data, check out the Scribble tutorial in visual studio. It saves the lines in a similar fashion. You would just need to tweak it to write text instead of binary. I don't know whether any article exists for such case, but I can give you some more hints about this as you know now how to deal with lines. Take out a list of values that are required for all the shapes that you are using. Create a structure e.g. structShape which contains members for holding all the values. Include a shapeType field in the structShape which will let you know what type of shape you are drawing. It might be the case that a shape would not contain all the properties. So copy values that are available and keep the remaining blank (or something like "NA" which means not applicable for this type of shape). I recommand using structure because if you want to read again from that file you can read in the same sequence that you wrote to the file. Your shapeType attribute will decide which shape is to be drawn. Is that fair enough? Let me know if any problem in this.....

If you can't get the Stream classes down, this is WAY over your head. Go back to the basics. There's nothing that does this for you. You have to keep track of the mouse position, where the mouse buttons were held down and where it is now, drawing, calculating the circle, arc, whatever, drawing the new graphic to your bitmap, then updating the image displayed in the PictureBox, ... I have no idea. Reading a text file is NOT going to do anything more than put some text into a piece of memory. For that to turn into ellipses, or whatever, you need to write some code that does that. So, it depends. what is in this text file ? How did it get there ? How did you expect this text to become something on your screen ?
