Skipping commercial illegal..I like trailers in DVDs I rent, but if I buy a DVD, I don't want that crap.

BrowniesI made brownies last weekend. Now, since brownies aren't really big in South Africa, I didn't really have anything to compare them to, so I'm not sure if they came out right. So, brownie experts, what is a brownie supposed to be like?

The Symbol of HateA few years ago I read a book that explained the meaning of the swastika. According to this book, the original swastika was a symbol of protection, but unlike the Nazi symbol, which looks like 2 S's in a criss-cross, the original symbol looks like 2 Z's in a criss-cross. Basically, the protection symbol looks like a cross spinning clockwise, and the Nazi's corrupted it into a cross spinning anti-clockwise. (Clockwise=good, anti-clockwise=evil.) I don't know how accurate this is, though (the image looks like the 2 S's in a criss-cross), but it's a nice theory.

From the letters page of The MetroI may have quit biology classes when I was 14 but I don't think fish procreate in that fashion. IIRC, they lay eggs. Actually, a number of fish are livebearers, i.e. the mother gives birth instead of laying eggs. (You learn a lot when starting a fish tank.)

SELECT statements in INNER JOINs?I've inherited a somewhat old system with a large number of SQL queries. In a number of these queries, there are SELECTs within INNER JOINs. For example, here are two INNER JOINs that are part of the same query: INNER JOIN ( SELECT * FROM Schema_types ) Schema_types ON Schema_types.Schema_typeID = Schemas.Schema_typeID INNER JOIN ( SELECT * FROM Marketeers WHERE MarketeerID = 7 ) Marketeers ON Marketeers.MarketeerID = Shipments.MarketeerID This looks rather peculiar to me. Is there merit in doing it this way, or is this just wrong?

Skills on a resume?Perhaps you should use 2, but group the information to improve readability. And perhaps list the more relevant skills first, e.g. ASP .NET before ASP. For example Expert Knowledge Skills - ADO.NET, MS SQL Server 7, 2000 - Stored Procedures / Triggers - C, C++, C#, MFC - ASP.NET, ASP, HTML - WinAPI, WinForms

Phones, and people who use themIn South Africa we have a "Call Me Back" service. Basically, you use this service to have a text message sent to the person's phone, that basically says "Call Me Back at 999-999-9999". These I ignore. If I don't know you and you're too cheap to phone me and leave a message on my voicemail, you can bugger off.

Top 100 April Fools Hoaxes Of All TimeA few years ago I watched some show on Discovery Channel about recently discovered creatures, and I seem to recall a mention of "Hotheaded Ice Borers". Weird.

Almost Cut My Hair....I think guys look pretty cool with shaved heads. If your head is the right shape, a bald head can look quite imposing. (Think Lex Luthor.)

I know this has been said before, but...I can sympathize. I hate it when developers whine about something not working, and it turns out they didn't read the documentation, or even MSDN. It makes me feel like yelling "Show some initiative, you mouthbreather!"
