  • Glueless Laminate Flooring
    N natalie morales

I wouldn't put a tile floor into a bedroom. A tile floor would give your bedroom a "cold" feeling. However, a few strategically placed rugs would help with this. You can put down actual wood floors but this is a pretty big expense as well as a major pain. I've done wood floors. They aren't fun. If you want a glueless laminate flooring solution but would like the look of wood floors, I would go with Pergo (or a similar brand.) check out their web site: http://www.pergo.com/Pergo/US_Home/[^] I've seen Pergo installed before, it's much easier to do that an actual wood floors. In fact, I'm installing it in my living room next year (second on my list of home projects, right after new tile in the kitchen). Also, I wouldn't get a stain or color that exactly matches furniture. I would go with a floor color that is just a few shades darker or lighter (depending on your preference). A decent home improvement store should have chips you can take home of the different stain options.

  • SUVs, for real?
    N natalie morales

I think I read the same study. From what I remember, SUV drivers were also more likely to describe themselves as introverted (while minivan drivers were the opposite). Couldn't find a link to the actual study but this article talks about it: http://www.bebeyond.com/LearnEnglish/BeAD/Readings/AutoFreud.htm[^]

  • SUVs, for real?
    N natalie morales

I'm getting tired of hearing this argument. I drive a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV. It's Huge and I love it. It's a 5.3L V8 engine with 285 horsepower. Why do I drive it? Incredibly comfortable, drives smoothly, size, storage, and looks. I live in Jacksonville,FL where at least half the vehicles on the road are trucks and SUV. My husband drives a BMW Z3 roadster (a new 2002, beautiful car). His car looks so tiny parked next to my truck. I would never buy a luxury model SUV (BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, etc.). I can't see spending $60-70 grand or more on any type of vehicle. I'd be afraid to take it out of my garage. Oddly enough, every SUV driver I know (with only a couple exceptions) is a woman. My husband says its a chick thing : "Little chicks, big cars". I just know that I don't ever want to drive a car again.

  • The Best Programmers are...
    N natalie morales

absolutely,,,,a bit of time on google has solved just about every programming question I've had. There is someone here at my company that is trying to learn programming. He's constanly asking me (and other team members) for help with very simple stuff. Hasn't quite gotten our hints about using google and msdn.

    N natalie morales

At my company, we quite often don't have a choice about using VB for our applications. We write software for sporting events and usually are given incredibly tight deadlines that can't be pushed back. Since we can't change the start date of the Olympics or the world cup soccer tournament, if VB can get the job done before the tournament/game/event or whatever starts, then that's what we use. About 2/3 of the programmers were I work are c++ programmers but quite often it's the VB people that come in and save the day.

  • Resume Suggestion
    N natalie morales

My company is hiring for a programming position right now. One of the resumes we receive, the applicant stated he took 6 months off to work on his personal web site (and supplied us with the address). Naturally, we looked at the site. It consisted of a single page with one picture and a link to an email address beneath it. We aren't planning on interviewing him.

I prefer bearshare myself. I believe with Kazaa, you can change the option for the number of simultaneous downloads. Haven't used it in a while.

yeah, he did. i was talking to him on the phone at the time I posted, he's the one that told me to check out the soapbox. It seems my attempt at a witty aside failed miserably.

  • IT Market in US and around the world
    N natalie morales

Pretty depressing right now. I'm in the North Florida area. It's gotten better in the past 6 months or so but it's not that great. Very few jobs out there. What I am finding more of is junior (read: low-paying) positions with an incredibly long list of required skills. I've got a friend who has been out of work for over a year, another friend who just lost her job. My company cut our development staff in half earlier this year. I've been waiting for the market to get better. Figure it's gotta bounce back eventually, right? :~

  • Pocket PC Advice
    N natalie morales

I've used a couple different devices (both Pocket PC and Palm platform). Personally, I can't stand Palms. I prefer the Pocket PCs myself. If you are going to get one, make sure it's running the 2002 OS and has at the minimum 32 MB of RAM. If you don't want bluetooth or wireless capabilites, you can probably get away with a PDA that just has an SD card slot. I'd consider the Audiovox Maestro. I've found it for $299 or lower on several web sites. It's got both an SD and CF slot. I'd also look at the reviews on the CNET site,http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0-2645869-7-1477485.html?tag=prmo[^]. Number 5 on the list is what I have. It's the phone edition version of the Pocket PC from T-mobile. I use it as my cel phone and as a PDA. It's got internet access on it. Great device. You can read more about it here: http://www.t-mobile.com/products/overview.asp?phoneid=163904[^]
