Bought before years a WinRAR life license. It always supported Zip files, to read and create. RAR format compression was always better than on Zip. Has a nice integration with Explorer popup menu, and offer to make own profiles/settings by task as you want. Now since short it supports the new RAR5 format. It was a wery good inwestment for me.

I always look a step further ... For me, the big problem is not in views, data, and UI, but basically in interfaces in the communication between man and machine. Every day, when we want to bring our thoughts and ideas to a conclusion in our work, we are always slowed down. Whether it's keyboard, mouse, or whatever, the ideas in our minds can never be written, developed, and tried so quickly. As non-English speaking, it took me 2 minutes to write that, get the syntax check over, and then post it! Everything so long only because of these not practical interfaces. ;)

I always think something, but actually it was a little embarrassing to say it until recently, because it sounds like a bad joke of teens or their dream. Therefore - in advance and to my defense - is to mention that my SF-Con is a very long time ago, and I (hopefully) with my 40+ already arrived in life. Especially after the appearance of Windows 10 and its UI appearance, I increasingly recognize a special trend and change with a certain similarity of the UI to the good old ST TNG. :) Looking back at the past 20 years and the current direction, first the good old fold-out phone, then iPhones, pads, and other mobile devices. In addition, then a little loose connection with Linux, and the growing storm clouds, whereby a certain weakening of the desktops in the direction of mainframes is tried. So also in now relatively flat and now universally expectant UI, which should now get more and more tabs. Maybe someday our dear windows will disappear completely. :)

Very good choice! I go there a step further ... * C: - SSD 0,5 TB System drive for OS and programs with ntfs links to other HDs. * D: - WD Blue 1 TB Data drive for stuff, like documents, projects, source code, etc. * E: - WD Blue 1 TB Work ground used by stuff I'm working on, like run/debeg project softwar (without source codes) and for databases, web server, VMs. * F: - WD Blue 1 TB Mainly for outsourcing of some SSD places like, like Temp, etc., to protect / increase the lifetime of the SSD. The rest of it I use for work and editing of multimedia files, and for extremely large amounts of data in DBs. * Backup, archiving, saving downloads, etc., all go to server shares on the network .

So after the last Windows 10 update debacle and with this situation with Edge, I made my decision and i'm very sure. I want wait as long as possible! I will update to Windows 10, but not earlier as in coming sommer. Of course not also without a new big update that works. Unfortunately I have no a real choice! Because there is no enough "Grab+Drag" (the FF addon) like functionality or solution in Chrome, nothing in IE/Edge. So is Firefox the only choice to me.

Well, that's not quite right! More likely they do wind around in space and do not fly straight ahead! It depends most of gravity, mass and speed! The problem now ist, that nobady is able to know the exact mass of the asteroid. They may be able to see the asteroid size, but don't know much about his material and density to have sufficient data and calculate his mass! So all they have is a round estimated mass value and maybe they are able to guess an (approximate) inertia! Well, I'm sure they have done much more than just to guess, but there is nothing more that they are able to say as a probability faktor/value. PS: About logic! Do you see now the bug in your logic function? :-D

I'm not a user myself, but I have helped others with Dragon, and some years ago IBM Clear Type. We currently use Dragon and for normal stuff it is excellent - needs minimal training and works pretty well out of the box. Given that it copes with punctuation for normal dictation, you may be able to extend this to cope with some programming constructs. The professional edition supports scripting and macros

@All Well, I'm writing that to you all as someone with some experience in this field. I have some strong physical disabilities (90%+), and so I'm forced to use V.R. for writing my code, and also writing anything. I'm also using Dragon Naturally Speaking professional edition. Great solution! My personal opinion is similar to that by TomMayne. It can be done but not right out of the box. You will need to make some preparations. The first thing is that you have to adapt yourself to that kind of programming. However, with the little help of intellisence in VS2005 it is simpler. The important things are the special macros or scripts that you can make and use in Dragon. Especially they may be bound to only one special program (i.e. VS2005) so you have many options how to integrate them f. e. for use with VS2005. It will take some time to get all things adapted to each other but afterwards it may work well. Additionally, don't forget to use Code Snippets in VS2005! I'm sure you all noticed that English isn’t my native language. So there is just one little drawback with Dragon! I need very often to switch between native and English language, and that is an awkward process. You have to save all changes that Dragon have made to his language database and wait a bit, then load the other language and wait a bit again. However I believe this isn't so important to all of us. @thrakazog Well a bit OT but... About 'ctrl-alt-delete' and other key combinations... there is a software solution inside windows as well as some HW solutions on special keyboards. So for example you have to press the keys one after another. It works great when u need to get into bios at boot time. It works with just one finger, a pen, or whatever! ;) -- NPow

Thanks for the fast replay! Well... System.Windows.Forms.VisualStyles is not a choice for me at the moment; The OS does not support them... I'm working on W2k and my control should work here too.

One class you might want to look at is the System.Windows.Forms.ControlPaint class.

I'm very skeptical about it. At the framework reference, they say for example on the Dark() method: ... If the specified Color is one of the SystemColors, the color is converted to a SystemColors.ControlDark color; otherwise, the color's luminosity value is decreased. ... So that is the problem, SystemColors.ControlDark or SystemColors.ControlDarkDark do not return a color as the ones that the original control use. Well, I will have to give it a try... tomorrow. :) Regards, NPow

  • How to get some special Windows colors?
    N NPowDev

Hello, I'm interested in how to get some special Windows colors. I'm developing a small control (derived from System.Windows.Forms.CheckBox), where I need to draw my own look. Basically, it is in a look like a flat checkbox button with some additional functionality. I tried using SystemColors and so on, but I'm getting not the same colors like the original control. I need colors like the one for shadowed or highlighted parts. I have tried SystemColors.ControlDark and SystemColors.ControlDarkDark but I'm getting the same color. The original checkbox uses some different colors. Have checked this with some screen shots. I'm using w2k with .net 2.0 and all color theme setting have been set back to the original one by MS! Does anyone know a solution, or does anyone have some tips? Best regards, NPow
