I can relate, I lost a lot of my 70's & 80's historical computer software and documention in a fire back in 2008. A lot of it I've never found replacements. I would love to peruse some of it today. But for a lot of it, it wasn't realy worth the space. A time amchine and a scanner would be nice. I've have a saying that applies. Nostalgia can be a prison if you let it.

The Nostalgia black hole -
Closures (C#)I just had a conversation with ChatGPT about the topic. It was interesting that I was asking it questions about some specifics about what it was explaining and it did not fall over into a "I'm sorry, 2 plus 2 does equal 5" type of conversation. That has happened a lot to me in the past when trying to understand something.

Windows 11 is getting improved context menusI do not use Windows 11 on a day to day basis yet. I've grumbled that moving the cut, copy, & paste funtions to the "show more options" menu was annoying. I honestly didn't notice the icons across the top of the context menu.

The Future they say you want: Apple vision proIt will suck not being able to see peoples eyes. It's bad enough that I often only see the tops of peoples heads as the stare at their phones.

Longest Wordle streak?I've made it close to a year. The most recent failure reported that I had a streak of one. Meaning I had missed a day, but it turned out there was a corrupted cookie it wasn't sticking. It continued reporting one for a few days and it straightend itself out.

Christmas Trees Confuse MeMy uncle started a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania USA. It has supplied the White House their main Christmas tree twice. It is being run by a third generation family member today. So I would say in their case, bringing trees indoors at Christmas has supplied them with a nice income for generations.

What Are Your Side Projects? My dad's side of the family is from Gettysburg. Definitely not the same town it was when I was a kid. Much more crowded with general commerce that you see in any town and less touristy.

Penny for your thoughtsIn the 90's I used to belong to a service called BIX. It was Byte Magazine's online forums and attracted a lot of notable people in the computer and other industries. There was a lot of history going on. I remember a particular disccusion on discovering the then undocumented inner workings of MS-DOS to create robust Terminate and Stay Resident programs. It eventually was sold to the Delphi service and after a few years shut down as the Internet had a lot of free sites to offer with more friendly user interfaces. Code Project has a lot of the feeling for me.

For those a little behind on their WhoI added Disney+ to my list of subscriptions. It was nice seeing a new episode of Doctor Who Saturday afternoon and not have to sit through several commercial breaks here in the USA.

Older developers - have you noticed a change in your sleep habits? My Sleep Number bed was the worst purchase I ever made. They have a huge revenue stream of chargeable replacement parts for something under warranty. Got rid of the mattress when the replacement pump was on indefinite back order. For my wife's anniversary present this year we got rid of the base and bought a made of real wood bed. We both sleep great, even if I still wake up at 3:00 to go. CPAP has probably been the second-best health technology improvement I've had. My family doctor said he resisted one for years but now he has it and wishes he would have used it sooner.

Older developers - have you noticed a change in your sleep habits?I've had a CPAP for about 5 years. I'm addicted to it. My wife likes it because I no longer snore. I feel crappy if I sleep horizontal without it. I can sleep in a chair okay. It's a pain to fly with these days as it becones an expense to carry. I still tend to wake up at 3:00 AM to releave myself and it's a coin flip if I can get back to sleep.

Do you have a language you're kind of ashamed that you like(d)?I used Delphi at my previous job, 2001-2012. The team lead had written a lot of projects in Turbo Pascal. They converted nicely to Delphi. Unfortunatly the bad habbits that were needed in DOS came along free for the ride. The biggest was string handling. Trying to move from Delphi 7/Delphi 2006 to Delphi XE was a killer because the default definition of 'string' being an AnsiString changed to a UnicodeString breaking a lot of our libraries as they treated the strings as arrays. They other issue was that the code was written as giant loop that ran in the idle time of Windows. This had the side effect of showing our application using 100% of the CPU time. I do miss the Borland days though.

Assembly Step-by-Step: First read this book in 1993I had the second edition but lost that in a fire. I bought the third edition and still have that, and tomorrow I will have the 4th edition! I've followed Jeff since his PC Tech Journal (Magazine) and Delphi (Pascal) days.

So YT has declared war on adblockers.I have had YT Premium for several years. Sometimes I get on some form of device where I'm not logged in and no adblocker. YouTube becomes almost unwatchable. A self incentive to get out and do something physical in the world.

Microsoft kills loophole that let Windows 7 keys activate Windows 11 and 10I updated a 2015 industrial touchscreen Windows 7 computer to Windows 10 last year and was surprised to find the license update process still worked. It was missing a couple of drivers, yellow exlamation points in Device Manager, but for its stopgap purpose worked fine. I needed a computer for a customer while I waited on their new one to arrive in a month or so.

Windows 11 upgrade noobie questionI started with Windows 1.0x. Didn't start using it regularly until Windows 2.x. These had the flat look. Windows 3.0 gave us more textured windows. XP overinflated them. I think it sucks that Microsoft has gone back to the pre-Windows 3 days in look. They feel lifeless to me.

Badger!I thought it was going to be the Honey Badger, this one I've never seen. Not as catchy as the Narwhal song.

New week, new toy...Agreed. It would be useful if the price would drop further as they are adopted as standard.
