I have spent the last 4 years going between the most current version of VS and VS 2002 then VS 2003 because management does not consider it important enough to take the time to move to the newer CLR. Instead we pander to every customers wild whim building on to the 1.1 platform project which they never use. Phew, I feel better. The job pays well enough (benefits could be better), I like the people I work with, work is flexible, and things are looking up as for going to the new platform maybe we will get their by VS 2010! Remember you are unique just like everyone else. (this came to me when a teenie bopper was digging through a bin of consumo crap and said as she pull one out "Wow, Mom! This is unique." and her mother replied "Yes, and it is special too." as they both stood in front of a bin of about 200 identical items.) That and the line from The Princess Bride Inigo Montoya: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Back Pain...Code-Frog, Try buying a good Ab Ball (make sure you inflate it to the correct size) and using it as a chair for an hour a day. It makes you use your core because you can't slouch which in turn strenghtens you back. I find that it helps alot, plus you can use it to stretch your back out. I will slouch sometimes even with everything adjusted properly because of the chair back being there. I found alot of good product at 'Relax the Back' including a stool that looks weird but makes you sit straight, just like the ab ball but cost a whole lot more. Hoorah, on ditching the Pain Meds! They dull you to the world and if you can live without them all the better.

Suggestions for AntiVirus?I personally use AVG professional, which includes Malware, Anti-Virus, E-mail Anti-Virus, Spyware, and Firewall. It can slow me to a crawl, but I found the trick was not to schedule it when I plan on working. I have it scan before I start for the day and I don't have it scan Archives except once a weekend. If it is running when I need to work, I just shutdown the scan. I do find that if I am trying to Visual Studio and do a Virus scan (though why I would do this I don't know) my system grinds to a halt and I can go get some coffee, chat with my neighbor, and watch CNN for about an hour. For the best comparision I find the AV Compartives is a good site. http://www.av-comparatives.org/[^] Saved me from keeping Microsoft "One Care" (Money? or World Dominance?) I hear that AVIRA is really good, but I like the two year license on AVG.

Microsoft on MultithreadingFirst, yes that is an awful stupid comment from Microsloth. Second, did you read the whole article? The preceeding sentence said "Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) is designed to save developers from the difficulties of threading. As a result, the majority of WPF developers won't have to write an interface that uses more than one thread. " The very next sentence says "No matter how well architected, however, no UI framework will ever be able to provide a single-threaded solution for every sort of problem." So taken in context it does make some sense. But, hey it is much more fun to take things out of context. As for the VB bashers out there... So what? Are you jealous? Or angry that you spent so much time and money on your education and they didn't? Or is this being proud that you received some sort of "Formal Education"? I didn't and have been in this business for many years and started out with "Microsoft Access" when it was first released and move deeper into programming. Yes, Idiots who use "On error resume next" are idiots. Oddly enough, I have meet quite a few who went to University and other forms of formal education. Do they give you a bad name? I feel that bashers like you give the rest of us programmers a bad name.

RAM (or possibly something else) noise?I hear your pain. Those stupid UltraSonic Pest repellers irrate me to no end. I had my hearing tested in the service, but it was a very comprehensive test because of the job I did and I was way above and below the normal specturm for hearing. Is it only this program? Any others? Well here are a few things to try: Get a stethscope or make a cone(and use it like a stethscope) and try to isolate the sound. It will let you pinpoint better while blocking the surrounding sounds. Check your fans mine bug me if the get out of balance because of dust. Vantec makes some really quiet ones. My MB varies the speed of the fans due to load and when my computer is working really hard the sound get more noticable. If you think it is the monitor try a ferrite on your cable. You might try your mouse and/or keyboard, but I would be more interesed why you are getting static on this lines? Is it really dry where you are? Do you shuffle your feet wearing wool socks across the carpet and electricute you PC for fun?(jk) Is the outlet that your system plugged into really grounded or is the ground not deep enough or not attached completely? Seperate all power cables from device cables as much as possible. Use a UPS/power conditioner. Even a cheap one with a small battery is better than nothing and a world of difference than just a power strip even with "Power Conditioners", but together even better. - Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. Just like everybody else. www.despair.com
