All of our female children have their middle name related to their Grandparents in some way. The first one has her maternal grandmother's middle name. The second one has her paternal grandmother's middle name. The third one has a shortened version of her mom's maiden name as her middle name. For first names we picked names we liked with a mild slant towards my minimal Irish heritage. (Molly, Margaret(Maggie), Lorelei). Unfortunately, our one boy was also our last so he got my middle name as his first name (William(Liam)), and both of his grandfathers' middle names as his middle names to cover all the bases.

HobbiesWoodworking - I like the tactile nature of it as a counterpoint to the abstract nature of programming. Especially turning, which has a very Zen like feel when you're watching the waste spiral off in a simultaneous act of creation and destruction. I also like spending time with my 4 kids (3 girls and 1 boy all 5 and under). I play board/strategy games (Race for the Galaxy, Puerto Rico, Power Grid, Cutthroat Caverns, Roborally, etc), RPGs, and every once in a while a racing game on a PS2 or PC.

First programming language for high school students? My recommendation would be Scheme - and there is even a good free textbook aimed at high school students available online. There is an ever increasing focus on functional technologies even in OO circles (LINQ, etc), so having a good understanding of that approach to problems should help across most platforms. http://www.htdp.org/
