If you really like the company you're with, can you negotiate with them for a larger raise, something more comparable to the second company? In my experience, the higher the salary, the more is expected from you (i.e., all your free time, your soul, your firstborn, etc.). To some people, that's an acceptable trade, but to me, the lower salary is far outweighed by liking what I do and where I work.

not a problem, the disadvantage is that if you wanted to make it all contiguous you'd have to drop the DB, defrag the hdd then recreate the db larger than it was before. but that would require a decent amount of downtime(a few hours depending on your server) and enough storage some place to back up your current data so it could be restored. also on mass inserts, i've found it usefull to drop the indices and recreate them after the insert, if you can do it all at once. you should see a noticable performance improvement if you try that, doing a lot of inserts and updates to an index can(sometimes) corrupt it quite easily, thus slowing down performance for any action on that table, or anything that is related to that table. Hmmm i guess it would be a good way to demonstrate a recursive algorithm for the seaching method... and how to use the GDI to print. But then again, there's plenty of articles already out there for those aspects.

That article based its "information" on Alexa and offered no comparison between the current rating of "slow" and whatever the rating was before they switched to Server 2008. The speed of a website is far more complex than what server-side OS it is running. It can be down to DNS issues and more often is down to HTTP bottlenecks on the client-side. Guess I should have also mentioned that this is a virtual host. There can be up to 400 different virtual guests on here (only 4 at a time) for a lab environment.

Thanks for the reply. I actually figured this one out before you replied, but your reply sounds like a more permanent solution then what i did.. (i used the decimal data type, which worked until 100%)

I am with you on this one. It has been long enough that we can safely say Generic Lists are production quality. :)
