I really like the hardware, and I despise the software. Image quality is great, size of the camera and low-light image is amazing. They introduced RTSP support in a beta firmware a few years ago, which let folks with BlueIris and other software access the camera's video feed. Then they pulled it from their website saying they didn't have the resources to support that feature alongside everything else. Soon after, they had new subscription services for everyone to sign up for. I think it was a money-grab for their subscription service. Meanwhile, my app usually takes 30 seconds to *try* to load the camera feeds, and half of them don't load. They seem to drop their network connection frequently, even though some are 10 feet from my access point with a clear line-of-sight. I have a few that were downgraded to the firmware that supports RTSP, and those show up instantly in SecuritySpy. The only problem is that the video feed drops every few minutes and then reconnects. But that's still 1,000% better than using their app, where the video usually don't load at all. If they added real RTSP support they could charge twice the money for the camera and sell a lot to folks who don't want to be a part of their cloud. But they seem to be pushing everyone to subscribe and pay them forever for using their cams. I've also spent hours working with support to resolve the problems I have with the app, but no luck. So again...great hardware, terrible software, overall frustrating experience. But I guess many others are happy with what they get.

WordPress or not to WordPressI've used MODX several times for basic marketing sites. Very easy to use and it doesn't get in the way of your HTML and design. It's been around for quite a while and I've never had a problem with it.

proprietary CMSIt's sounds like you're in a no-win situation. I'd consider dropping the client before things get ugly. Let someone deal with the stress and blame.

It's time to move onI can see some value in having M.D. after the name--so I know I'm corresponding with a doctor--but MBA is just lame. It seems like everyone has an MBA. Maybe it used to mean something, but not any longer. (I know a lot of people with MBAs that aren't too bright.) Now when I see those letters following a name in email, it just seems like the person is trying too hard.

Cancel - OKFrom the article: "...but you cannot ignore the fact that users will look at all of their options before they choose which action to take." The article may be correct, but the author provides no proof. Was an eye tracking study done? I generally don't look at all the options if the first one I see is the correct one. And I'm guessing that OK and Cancel buttons result in very fast fixations because our brains are doing visual pattern matching against two very common and distinct options.

Cancel - OKA few random thoughts come to my mind... I've always hated how WinZip randomly changes the buttons on their trial software when it first loads, tricking me into hitting the Buy button. If you write Windows software, you should stick with the conventions established by Windows. Major software vendors have made major changes (like swapping the buttons) when they have new major release of their software. Maybe that's the time to change button positions, if it's decided they need to be changed. I'm guessing many users will curse the first time they hit the wrong button, and maybe the second or third time. But after that they'll have learned the new positioning. They learned in the first time they used the software and had to realize it was opposite of how all their other software does it. People may be stupid, but they're usually not THAT stupid. I really hate keyboards that move around the Insert, Delete, and other keys found above the arrows. I'm really glad someone challenged the position of the starter on cars. I'd hate to have to stand in front of the car and crank a handle just because it was always done that way. And remember rotary telephones? :-) Things will forever evolve and we must regularly update things to keep up with the continual change. Case in point, if you want your application to work well on a touch device, you'll need to make things easier to tap with a finger (generally larger) and within reach of a thumb. And the interface usually needs to be simplified. Evolution.
