If I have to guess, your Twain driver is not working. But it is common for a scanner come with Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) driver (I am not sure if that is the accurate name). Regardless that explains why NUANCE is working. Check CP for image acquisition simple scanning. I remember there are articles here for both WIA and Twain. Good luck.

Lets not. These days I only use JPegs in printing, publishing, photograpy only at max quality no loss or min loss. Lossy compression was fun a decade ago. But nowadays it exists because of the widespread base. Relatively speaking LibTif by Sam Leffler is a piece of Engineering Marvel.

I see the problem with my logic. I got the number from command line...nslookup just like ping they would work only if there was no DNS problem anyway. So chalk it up to stupidity of a clueless me. When it comes to these sort of things I mean.

I have had a week long episode of COdeProject.com dissappearing. I found out the IP number and everything worked well with the IP number as the address. So it was a DNS problem. It is now back to normal. I am pointing to default DNS provided by ATT U-Verse. I know that this problem would have been the same from any browser. But actually I believe I tried it from different locations as well. It is all well now. I am guessing you have a different problem. But when it happens if you try to connect to http://65.39.148.34

  • Back To Her Maiden Name
    T Teashirt2

She was my confidant, my best pal. I loved her. She was a small, wired, firecracker with a passionate drive for life. She used to say "Baby I am too fast for you". I kept saying “You know me well”. She purred like a kitten while I stayed up all night. She used to say “I admire your work”. That was how it was in the beginning. Over the time, we were both getting older and more tired. You can only spin so long without getting dizzy, No? I feel like she took it all in and never complained about my constantly fragmenting requests and scattered life style. It didn’t help that I was so disorganized. One day it came to an end. She was mad at me. Actually more hurt and broken. In a desperate move she declared she is going back to her Maiden Name and starting all over. So this little dialog box pops on my screen alerting me to the fact that this little old drive I use to keep my stuff on had to be reformatted. Luckily it is one of few I keep around. You can never be too careful. Or careless as the case may be. Yalcin Yanikoglu

  • is there size limit to display an image with GDI+?
    T Teashirt2

well is this a higher res image(may be for print purposes) or just plain old large (like maps). Here are some ideas depending on the anser: 1. if the image is high res image such as 1200, 2400 dpi letter size rgb image, downsample the image first . Because, displaying that image (fitting the screen) full res is asking the graphics subsystem to downsample it on the fly. Image quality will not suffer (assuming you downsample it right). Do not over do it allowing the viewer zoom in say up to 300%. So even down to 300dpi will bring file size down to 1/16 allowing your self zoom in roughly about 300% without quality problems. 2. if the image is lower res (300 dpi or less), but large. most likely scenario you will not display it fitting the screen. Because it will look horrible, even if displaying was possible. In that case extract a region and display only that depending on the scroll position. I hope this gives you some ideas.

  • Norton Anti Virus [modified]
    T Teashirt2

I am in a bad mood. So it is probably not a good idea to crab about stuff. But here it goes. Norton came with my laptop and works. But the live update (2 radio button 1 checkbox dialog app. very simple) offers you to renew subsc. or remind in x days, or forget about it. None of the options work. Tabbing does not work. So you accidentally click on renew. Don't remind me for 15 days does not work so in 10 minutes the app comes up and steals focus from anything and asks you again. I know I can get rid of the stupid sh**t. But If Norton can not make a 3 button app, that acts better than this? Then how do you trust them to fight the spam, virii, etc. Or is thist just bad intentions? If so how do you figth these morons? yalcin -- modified at 9:49 Wednesday 5th September, 2007

OK this may not be what this area is intended for. But allow me to banter. Please. After all there is some programming behind. I have this stupid Timex alarm clock that I have no idea how to setup. I go to Timex site. And search for "clock" I get the following message _________________________________ We're sorry, but your search for "clock" returned 0 results. Want to keep looking? Please enter another product name or keyword in the search box below _________________________________ The whole site sucks, it will not allow you to search two words, "alarm clock". Then again if it did not find any products that matched "clock", I wonder.....Never mind. It is possible that I am too tired to figure this out. Cooked all day and have two teenage boys. 'Nough said. yalcin

OK, I think I have relative experience. I am a foreigner living in US. And I have my own company. I have been trying to sell software to customers for a decade now. I also had to deal with investors. So I have to talk to many people sometimes training groups. I also am a DJ at a local university station. When I was a grad student. I also had to deal with groups of undergrad students. In addition my younger son is having similar problems. His concern happens to be sweating too much while he is in school. This in turn puts him into the same cyclical panic like situation. I would like to add my feelings about the subject to what has already been said by many. 1. Plant friends in audience. Who has gone through the speech and can jump in in case of emergency. My teachers at the University always did that. When a grad student gave a lecture and was confronted with a tough question they would jump in from the audience, and answer. Must be done very graciously and. I must admit, they were all very good. Nobody got hurt feelings. 2. Not to be blunt but, don't take yourself, your career, and this speech too seriously. I mean the world does not really revolve around my stupid radio show. That approach is so liberating. I get licence to skrew up. Not that you have to use it. Remember you like what you do. And it can't help but show. 3. Remember the audience statistically is full of dull people whose lives are far less interesting than yours. And The speech that you should not take too seriously, is the most exciting thing they will have done that week. 4. Some people found out that, if you have a good subject and you are ok in what you know, but a bit on the shy, and nervous side, People adore that. I know I do. That however backfires for me when it is pretentious and done intentionally. Finally good luck and come tell us how it went and what you can recommend us. yalcin DJ Turbonado (aka Brown Sugha) Dromedary Express at WCBN FM
