Actually, I do. In Windows 8 you're always two clicks away from making those extensions visible, and one click from hiding them back again (yes, I am referring to the Explorer ribbon, which has made some options like that one way more accessible). So, 99% of the time, I avoid this visual clutter (I rarely need the extensions anyway, unless I want to change the file type of a text or xml based file).

Does anybody 'Hide extensions for known file types'? -
To ribbon or not to ribbon? [modified]Thanks for the links!

Microsoft's arrogance with IE9Ctrl+Ins is useful only for left-handed people with the Insert in a reasonable place on their laptops (I personally HATE the insert button, it tends to activate when I don't want it, so I want it somewhere very very far away). Regarding the Title bar, seriously, aren't there any more important problems out there?

small, slow memory leakVisual Studio Profiler cannot do the job for you? I mean, to track where the memory is used.

VS 2008, or VS2010Any recent integrated Intel chip is normally enough. I've used it without GPU as well (we do a lot of remote desktop on the server) and yes, I feel the difference, but it's not really bad. I've used VS2010 a lot, and I find it slightly faster. I also love the new features (I do multi screen occasionally, for example).

Back to C#.Ok, I made some assumptions here and I apologize. Still, the way it is implemented, you *know* that if you need to convert one day your field-equivalent automatic property to a fully-fledged property with logic in the getter and the setter, nothing will break because of this change (because of the logic you implement, of course, something might change). With a conversion from a field to a Property (or even worse from a field to a Getter and a Setter, as in Java), some consumers will break. In the end, it's only some minor extra coding overhead ({get; set;}) to avoid this kind of situations in the future of your code. I think it's worth the effort.

Back to C#.No. Automatic properties can have annotations that variables do not. Automatic properties can be used by frameworks in ways variables are not. You just haven't used C# (or java for that matter) enough to see the gains. Try data annotations and silverlight validation, for example.

Back to C#.Try Salesforce and APEX. It is java-like, with the most bugful studio I've ever seen and it heavily uses the view state. It's slow and its CHEAT SHEET of platform limitations (in terms of number of queries etc) is 9 pages long.

Back to C#.I definetely don't see why.
-
Back to C#.Wait, what's your problem about dispose patterns?
-
Back to C#.You are the first person I've ever seen don't liking Properties. They are syntactic sugar but they make the code concise and understandable. Yes they are methods, you know they are, they start with a capital letter, but what's the problem about that?

Multiple monitors suck your productivity awayYes but still, your title is stupid. You could have said "You shouldn't use multitasking as an argument for multiple monitors." We often use multiple monitors either for a single task, or for a task staged and waiting, which we want to pick up fast. I practically always do most of my work on my primary monitor. The left is for chatting etc, when I want to take a very short break, and the right for emails, where I (don't have a choice but to) reply quite fast. And when there's a task that requires a lot of concentration, I use two monitors for the task and COMPLETELY ignore the third (I think I would be as well off with two instead of 3 monitors).

What phones run on Windows phone 7?There are leaks about a Dell as well, but Microsoft has announced Toshiba, Asus and Sony Ericsson as partners as well, so we'll see a lot of devices. :)

Pranking the office: fake Blue Screen of DeathI did something similar two years ago. There was somewhere in codeproject I think a link to a screen-saver like blue screen of death that responded only to the Esc button. The user tried other buttons of the keyboard and then hit the reset button, losing work he had in progress :P :~ Maybe this was too much trauma for him: he hasn't really done any work here since then.

Censorship or Bing's poor search algorithmI don't get exactly that, but I get many results within openoffice(scripts.openoffice) or with direct links (sun open office).

Cost of a tetanus shot in the USYou have every right to have these political opinions. But here we have a discussion, with arguments and information.
-
Cost of a tetanus shot in the USI try not to believe, period ;).
-
Cost of a tetanus shot in the USCome to France or Switzerland to see socialism (and not extreme). Even Germany is way more socialist than USA, and nobody needed to save them the last 70 years! But I won't get into that discussion right now, I need to much data and quote finding (example: even Adam Smith was advocating public education).

Cost of a tetanus shot in the USThat was low, but easy to respond to... How much of the 100€ :P? I assure that's not what caused the current economic problems  (it's more of a mix of corruption, badly distributed state officers - too few in some functions, too many in some others*, and a ridiculous lack of respect for the law, which caused 1) european subventions to be spent to open brothels and stuff like that and 2) too much tax-evasion). Would liberalism have solved the problems? Just compare to the (very very economically liberal) Ireland: they had all that money in their disposal and then they were almost bankrupt, with no serious infrastructure left(hospitals, education etc)

Cost of a tetanus shot in the USWho actually said that "socialism is better"? "Any time there is a natural disaster 80% of the aid comes from the US." citation needed "Any time a dictator invades his neighbors, the US sends 90% of the military force to help push them back. (not just Iraq but look back over the last 100 years)" you mean when the dictator was not actively supported by the US? Because here, by talking about the last 100 years to a Greek, you actually hit the wrong button. "and the rest of the world come to the US for specialized care." Only hyper-rich or very very special cases. Also, citation needed "Socializing any aspect of life takes away the drive for improvement." One of the most wonderful quotes I've ever read
