I know that only too well, and often at my own cost. Turns out people don't often like to hear the truth... :-\
...and then you decided to come home and hit CP? That's dedication.
Man, you must have been steaming lastnight - your posts cracked me up. I'm surprised you even made it into work today. :wtf:
Great post! I'm a mere pup in this industry, I don't think I've ever witnessed the 'Next Big Thing' so it's interesting to hear what some of the old guard come up with. If I'm honest I guess I consider C++ to be old-fashioned ;P - clearing memory up after yourself is so 'last Tuesday'.
iWant.
I'll be quite interested to see what you think when you've checked it out. I've had a look but I can't really work out if it's going to be worthwhile for Westerners. I always thought something like RentACoder was a good idea, until I saw the type of $$$ people were prepared to pay.
It's very cool, but not 4Ks worth of cool. I could buy a nearly new car for that!
My bad. :-O Truth is that I've done a fair bit of C++ but it's all been using MFC, and I don't really know much about using C++ outside of the MFC arena. I'm a more of a C# .net boy really. You know what they say about ASSumptions...
Nothing LEAN_AND_MEAN about Win32... MFC can be such a pain in the arse.
JEALOUS! I stupidly decided to buy a house three years ago when house prices were just a year off their peak. I now owe £155K on a house worth £145K. To top it off I remortgaged just as the baking crisis got going (because my fixed deal was about to end and the SVR was enormous) and I just managed to secure a 95% mortgage with an interest rate of 6.75% fixed for three years. Shortly after that the BofE dropped rates through the floor. :sigh: God I wish I had continued renting...
Thanks for your input. It's quite interesting to hear a native Oz's perspective that has lived in England for a while, especially when he's been living in Birmingham! I have to say that most people in England would agree that Birmingham is probably one of the least desirable places to live in this country so it makes your argument for staying put even more compelling, particularly as I live in the South West which is much nicer than many other parts of England!
5
 I only speak English, so most of Europe's out of the question.
Yeah, if I'm honest it's a downside. I don't like the idea of my little boy playing in the back garden and coming across a poisonous {insert dangerous animal here}. However, it's pretty rare so it's a risk worth taking I think.

Good luck if you travel there...
Thanks!
What a wonderful place to be... X|
Really? I'm quite surprised to hear that, I've always found that's it's portrayed positively. Where would you suggest as an alternative?
I don't fancy Sydney, it's overcrowded and expensive. Like living here, only hotter. I like the look of Brisbane though, or one of its suburbs.
Crap beer? Could be a deal breaker... X|

We wanted you guys in the 50s. Blame your parents for not coming out then.
I would, but they weren't born then ;) I suppose I could blame my grandparents. Seriously though, what part of Oz do you live in? I've checked and I could qualify for automatic entry based on my current situation with a Skilled Independent Visa and I'd really like to live somewhere on the gold coast. I'm just not sure there's enough work in that area.
