I once wrote some code that checked for a condition that was impossible (just to be funny) and added an error message that went something like this: "It seems that an impossible condition has been perceived to have occurred while processing your data. If you are receiving this error, then please do nothing, as you you obviously do not exist. Authorities have been notified of your non-conformity." So far, I'm not aware that anyone else has seen it...

New York City's Inconsistent Obesity PolicyWhen I go to a restaurant (fast food or otherwise), I almost always order water - tap water with ice. At "sit-down" restaurants, I also ask for a lemon slice. All of this is free. Of course, I could just be cheap... :-O

Typos in codeI recently ran across three different misspellings (one each in three different projects). It was the exact same word in the exact same comment in the exact same method that someone had copied from one project to another (twice). I was embarrassed enough to learn that I was the one who wrote the original (misspelled) comment (quite a few years ago) :-O . I really didn't need to know that I was also the one who copied it (twice) instead of adding it to our class library. (In addition, I apparently copied the code without reading the comment - which means it probably wasn't even worth writing in the first place). :sigh: --Tim Sygitowicz

'Low-level' vs 'High-level' ProgrammingIMHO the growing debate between 'low-level' and 'high-level' programmers has gotten rather childish. We are all members of the same 'body'. High-level programming allows us (as a 'body' of programmers) to write programs faster than we would otherwise, and therefore high-level programmers offer society a great service. But it should also be noted that high-level programming would not be possible were it not for the continuing effort of low-level programmers. This should not be an 'Us vs Them' thing, it should be 'Us AND Them'. We all need each other - We cannot be as effective without the other as we are together. Both are important... ...or could it be that low-level programmers who are bashing high-level programming, are really just kicking themselves for not getting on the bandwagon earlier... Gee, this is fun.
