I know people (my wife, in fact) who didn't like coffee because the coffee her mother made tasted bad. She now makes continuous use of her Starbucks card. Similarly, I've had vegeburgers - and most taste crappy, including the well-touted Boca-Burgers. On the other hand, Monringstar Farms stuff is amazing (they even make meatless bacon (you may shudder)). Tofurkey's sausage would shame most peperoni by every standard except being greasy. And finally, I come to ToFu. An unasked for primer: It comes in a very large variety of textures from silken to firm, and even a type called 'dried' or 'pressed'. My western pallet finds the soft and silken version unpleasant textures. On the other end, however, the pressed ToFu is as solid as Edam cheese. The taste? Well, actually, none. It's all on what you do with it. Which, by-and-large, depends upon the sauce. If you think about flour, it doesn't taste like much, but think of all the baked goods one can make from it.

non tasty food
Only because your cook either (1) sucked at cooking it, or (2) has vastly different taste then you. I've seen Chinese friends with a bowl of soup with hunks of (soft) Tofu in it. They think it great - I "fail to see the charm". My father, a life-long carnivore, usually grabs seconds when I make the Tofu dishes. NOt an uncommon preposition. If you've eaten it at the hands of people you've visited or a lot of vegetarian/vegan restaurants, you might find the same disappointment I usually experience. My stuff requires chewing. I almost invariably brown TofU before mixing it in with stuff - or even deep fry it. But, to be fair, how tasty is a hunk of raw meat? In CP terms, Buggy code doesn't mean computers suck - just the programmer who created it. As a total aside - I don't do this for health - it's all ethical. You'd have to eat pretty badly to notice any health improvement by switching to vegetarian. You know - like wrapping a stick of butter in bacon as a light snack. Like my wife and coffee, you've been left with a bad taste in your mouth. You perception, based upon experience may be correct, but like the bad-code, it may be common but it's not representative of an easily reached potential.
