Israel has the unquestionable right to defend itself and its people from terrorism, but it also has the responsibility to provide equal rights for those Palestinian refugees who do not commit terrorism, and who do not seek the destruction of Israel. Right now, Israel gives very little incentive to Palestinian children to turn away from the violence and extremism of their parents. No matter how well they behave, Israel promises that they will never have a state of their own, nor become citizens of the land in which they are born and live their lives. Israel tells them, "you will always be stateless outsiders in the land of your birth." Israel did offered a palestenian state at Camp David 2000. Even Ariel Sharon said palestenian state is acceptable to him (the speech was about a month ago) and Israel will agree to this in future agreements. Personnaly, I think palestenian state is a must to both sides. The sooner the better. However palestine must ensure Israel safety, for example in the situation of the palestine city of Kalkilya. It is less than 5 miles from Israeli city of Netanya. This range allows the use of short range artilerry. Assuming Arafat agrees to not having an army, can someone garantee palestine leaders after him wont violate this? In peace agreement Israel gives strategic land for promises on paper. With Egypt it is possible due hundreds kilometers of territory between Egypt army and Israel. With palestine its 3 minutes of driving, so the risk is high. The next issue is refugees. They must understand they will never come back. There is nowhere come back to, those places do not exist. Other solutions must be found. I don't say its right or wrong, it just the way it is.
