How to get into IT? -
How to get into IT?As an employer, given the opportunity to hire: 1) a cheap noobie, 2) a cheap graduate, 3) a cheap experienced non-graduate, or 4) a cheap experienced graduate, which would you choose? The market is flooded. Companies now have the opportunity to choose the cream-of-the-crop at bargain prices/benefits. Companies don't want to train someone just to lose the person to another company. They want experience too. They can interview, 'till they're blue, and they do. Experience is king. A piece of expensive paper (a diploma) simply places you in a different pile on a desk. ... My two cents ... :)

Advice on how to help an 11 year old start programming...hi, I came across this little game and thought it to be very helpful for my nephew. Maybe it'll help your 11 year old. :-D The site also teaches you how to create flash games & logic etc. http://www.kongregate.com/games/Coolio\_Niato/light-bot

Coding with MusicI work in a rat maze of cubes, conference calls, curses, sneezes, snorts, coughs, and laughs. :^) There's 2,500 of us in our building. :~ The only way to escape from the cacophony is to listen to something -- anything -- with a beat. It isn't heavy (usually). It's usually lyric-free. It's probably jazz-techno-drums-synth stuff. It creates some order amongst the chaos. ... And there, in that semi-orderly world, I code.

Ideological Programming Question...Readability, Readability, Readability. Oh yeah. It should be understandable. Sure. Break it up a little, into logical pieces. Make it yours. It sounds like it might be any way. After our family packed up from a weekend of camping, we'd stand side-by-side and "walk" our camp site, and pick up any trash or sticks. We'd leave the site in better condition than we found it. I apply the same policy to codeing. Leave the site in better condition than you found it. Break up a method here. Comment better there. ... you might return there again someday. ;)

Being bad at mathHello, Many times UIs are designed by developers. Usually this situation creates a design that follows the data instead of the User's needs/perception. I agree, it's irrelevant whether the User understands the 1st row as row 0. To the User, it's the 1st row. 1 is always odd. Many times, great developers partner with UI designers to bridge the perception vs. behind-the-scenes infrastructure. It's always a good thing for developers to sit back and watch a complete stranger use their program... and take lots of notes. :)

Physics in OOP?You're right, the bbt is just a theory. Doesn't the bbt still demand an explanation as to the source of the very first Object.Hydrogen.Proton.Muon.CharmedQuark? There must be a first one. It had to come from somewhere. Once that is explained, everything else falls into place. Then there is the concept of time... :-D

Physics in OOP?Interesting... Every response here demands intelligent design... Physics and Mathematics simply become the principles of management, put into place by the Developer. An OS, uses the principles of management to accomplish tasks. In this case, to provide an environment for apps and objects to thrive. According to physicists, even the lifeless planets are mandatory for Earth to operate properly. Thus: no moon, no tides, no apps. They also say that there are parameters for stable solar systems. So: no other planets in the Sol system, no apps running on Earth, etc. A well designed OS wouldn't need updates, because updates imply that the principles of management change. This one even has garbage collection! Viruses also imply that the principles of management can be altered. This is not possible though many objects within apps might wish to. Wouldn't atoms and molecules also be objects, at a granular level, working according to the principles of management, within the environment provided by the OS? Then there's the concept of fuzzy logic... :-D
