I now have the best of both worlds.. kind of. Now work for a small/medium sized company in the downstairs office however we have enough room between us to drive a car thorugh the gaps. Open windows, doors that lead out to a garden and hop over the fence and your in woodlands where you can go off for a stroll. Very relaxed atmosphere i.e. we will often put music on or stick on the iPod to hum away in our own heads. I miss working from home but equally I like the break away from all the chaos at home that inevitebly ensues when the kids run riot around the house.

Working in an office. -
Is anyone else considering skipping the VS2008 generation? We will not be adopting VS2008 for a long time - there simply isn't a business a case for it. We are still using .NET 1.1 on many of our bespoke applications and are migrating these over to .NET 2.0 which is probably as far as we will go. It would be nice to have all the new toys however we have several enterprise wide systems in place (SAP, BEA Aqualogic Portal etc) as such VS2008/.NET 3.0/3.5 is simply not an option and will not be for a long time. I think this is a reality Microsoft needs to start understanding, why should we upgrade to the next xyz application, introduce more bugs, support headache etc when we are running stable with the current release of the app(s)? PS3 or Wii ?If you want longevity then the PS3 is the one to go for. I believe like the PS2, it will eventually come out on top due to the types of titles being released for it however the hash that Sony made of the pricing and the launch hasn't helped. Xbox360 will always seem like a half hearted console and I don't think it will shake this fact off for a while. The Wii is great initially but you have to wonder if Nintendo will simply stop supporting it or suffocate the game titles like they did with their earlier (and somewhat superior consoles). I currently own a PS2, PS3 and a Dreamcast, mainly down to the fact that the games I own can only be played on that particular console. The console market is much more competitive this time round with some very good titles on Xbox360 as well as the Wii (Legend of Zelda etc) so its very difficult to choose. If I had the money, I would get all three!

Monitor size?At work I use 2 x 19" flat panel monitors. At home I use 2 x 21" Eizo CRT screens (unbeatable for image quality) giving me 3200x1200 desktop space (they run at 1600x1200 @ 100hz each). I do a fair bit of graphic and design so these screens are great, even if they give off lots of radiation (explains why my hair keeps falling out!). For development they are perfect, I can have visual studio running at high res so I can see more of the source file and then have the other screen free to display a web page, app or debug windows etc. I have a third screen attached to an old PCI card which is used for displaying movies or music while I work ;-)
