  • Visual Source Safe?

So, hardly anyone likes Visual Source Safe. Does anyone know that the 2005 version isn't bug-free? Also, is MS Team System any good? ...or any good for only two developers?

Seems many here use and love Subversion with Ankh and Tortoise. What are the advantages and disadvantages with the others mentioned: SourceGear's Vault[^] and Dimensions[^]?

Thanks everybody for your replies. I'll check out the programs mentioned here.

Would Team System be a good choice for a team of two developers writing large and small VB.NET web and Windows applications?

So, does SubVersion with AnkhSVN integrate into VS2005 really well? Is it hosted on a separate server? Is it a good tool for a team of two programmers?

I've asked for advice here about source control for my VB.NET web application. I'd like to use something that integrates into VS2005. Many people recommend that I do not use Visual Source Safe, but instead use SubVersion with AnkhSVN and Tortoise. Does anyone like Visual Source Safe? What makes SubVersion so much better?

    I'll look into FogBugz.

I have used an old version of Gemini once before and it was okay, but seemed to be lacking. Do you use ToDoList? Does it allow two (or more) people to collaborate? Can we check the progress of the other? Can we divide and assign tasks to each other? Is the data stored on a central server?

How muche time did you estimated from the beginning of the project to it's implementation in the production environment?

Apparently only one pith the time I should have! :)

    Multiply your estimates by PI.

I estimate 2 - 3 months to production, then after that, regular improvements and feature additions indefinitely.

SubVersion doesn't integrate with Visual Studio. That seems like a problem. Is it?

I'm on a team of two developers. We will soon be programming a large web application from scratch. Right now we're just working on the specifications. We still need to get the hardware in place for our new development, staging, and production environments. We're going to program with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and probably use Microsoft Visual Source Safe 2005. Would Microsoft Project be useful for us to keep track of our progress and as a bugs database? What else would anyone here recommend to a small team starting a large project? Thank you for any advice!

Out-of-focus dust is just a simple explanation for the mundane inexplicable phenomenon. I mean, there's a ghost explanation, and there's a lousy photographer explanation. I'm just advocating that the controversy be known. Obviously further study is warranted. :) -- modified at 15:12 Tuesday 6th June, 2006

You're right. It's much more likely to be the physical manefestation of souls and/or spirits of dead people. I wonder what they're trying to tell us? Just think of all that they can teach us! :omg:

I suggest you all consider reading this great book by the late Carl Sagan: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0345409469/sr=8-1/qid=1149545158/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-7684579-5008812?%5Fencoding=UTF8[^] It's a good read and you might learn something about yourself!

The "orbs" are out-of-focus dust particles reflecting light often from the camera's flash bulb. Sorry to disappoint. Check out http://www.randi.org[^] for lots of analysis of the paranormal, spirituality, and other kooky, unfounded beliefs. ;)
