Japan Vacation

Kyoto and vicinity is very beautiful. Lot's of old buildings and beautiful gardens. Although, it's not the place to buy the latest and the greatest hitech. So if you want to shop, I suggest you go to either Tokyo or Osaka.
When are you going there? I would suggest you go there in late august, or beginning of september. Less humidity and heat. :)

October was really great last year, in terms of weather. It was however an exceptional climate according to the locals. May is probably quite nice.
If you go to Kyoto, I also suggest you take an express train to Nara. Many beautiful sites and museums there. According to friends of mine, there's also a Ninja museum there, which might amuse you.
Make sure you try Ryoukan (Japanese style hotel) one night before deciding to stay at one for a longer period of time. Ryoukan means: squat over a hole in the ground when taking number 2, and sleeping on thin matresses on the floor.

Those are all on my list to go. If I ever go to Japan, forget high tech, you will find me at Mt Fuji or in one of the gardens or wandering between temples, etc. Not like I will ever go, but hey, you never know. I strongly suggest you wear flowered Hawaiian shirts and boxer shorts. Speak very loudly, preferably with a strong southern accent. You'll fit right in and become friends with everyone! I've been to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and recommend the first two. I didn't get out into the country side. Next time. I absolutely loved Japan, but it it is expensive and can be difficult to find your way around. The people are very friendly and helpfull though.
