    what we should see

Hiroshima. The peace museum usually leaves quite an impression, and if you go through the surrounding memorial park after visiting the museum, its beauty and the cheerful groups of japanese students might seem somewhat surreal. In addition to that, I found Hiroshima to be different from most other japanese cities in being more orderly and much less cluttered (at least that was my impression). Links: Wikipedia[^], Wikitravel[^] Should you visit Hiroshima, also go to Miyajima – it is a classic tourist destination, but if you take the "Mountain Path" to the top of Mt. Misen instead of the cable car or the direct road, you get a nice hike through a beautiful landscape. The area between the cable car's valley station and the town of Miyajima, around a small river, is also strikingly beautiful. Links: Wikipedia[^], Wikitravel[^], Wikipedia[^] If you go to Kyoto, you will surely visit sites like Nijo castle, the Golden Pavillon and Mt. Hiei; if you go a little bit to the east, to the shore of Lake Biwa and the city of Otsu (which, by itself, is principally like any other medium-sized japanese city), you should consider visiting Ishiyama temple; it is a rather large temple area with beautiful gardens. Those are all on my list to go. If I ever go to Japan, forget high tech, you will find me at Mt Fuji or in one of the gardens or wandering between temples, etc. Not like I will ever go, but hey, you never know. If I ever get a new job, perhaps I will travel more. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Talk about things of tomorrow and the mice in the ceiling laugh. I strongly suggest you wear flowered Hawaiian shirts and boxer shorts. Speak very loudly, preferably with a strong southern accent. You'll fit right in and become friends with everyone! I've been to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and recommend the first two. I didn't get out into the country side. Next time. I absolutely loved Japan, but it it is expensive and can be difficult to find your way around. The people are very friendly and helpfull though. The Soapbox is boring. I get way too much of that sort of political rah-rah from 'Pope F' down the hall from me (I call him Pope F because he pontificates a lot).
