I was looking for the Chris Sells Avalon book. Amazon has it as "Programming Windows Presentation Foundation (Paperback)" by Chris Sells, Ian Griffiths Paperback: 447 pages Publisher: O'Reilly Media, Inc.; 1 edition (September 12, 2005) Language: English ISBN: 0596101139 Product Dimensions: 9.2 x 7.0 x 1.0 inches Chapters (Canada) has it as "Programming Avalon" Author: Chris Sells Format: Trade Paperback · Published: October 2005 Dimensions: 472 Pages, 6.98 x 9.16 x 1 in ISBN: 0596101139 · Published by O'reilly Different names! Different number of pages. Same ISBN code. The Chapters book is dated Oct 05 while the Amazon book is Sep 05. But the Amazon book uses the new name (WPF) while the Chapters book uses the old name (Avalon). Anyone knows which is the right book - the latest one I mean? Regards, Nish

How can this be out yet if WPF isn't frozen yet? I thought there were still things that could change? ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Real Mentats use only 100% pure, unfooled around with Sapho Juice(tm)! SELECT * FROM User WHERE Clue > 0 0 rows returned Save an Orange - Use the VCF!

The book is on the Beta. Later they'll release the updated edition that'll cover the RTM. Regards, Nish

Yeah, I figured that out after I posted. But why did they rename the title to Avalon? Maybe Canadians don't like acronyms like WPF, WWF, WCF! Regards, Nish

Ahh OK. So have you tried using WPF at all on XP? I've looked a little at the API's and been curious to try it out, but I'm not entirely sure what is involved in terms of what development tools need to be installed. ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Not yet. At work I do unmanaged VC++/MFC mostly - very little managed stuff. I did manage to get it installed at home though, and I intend to try it out soon :-) Regards, Nish

On my way back from (or was it to) Lebanon, I baught a book in jooly, old England called Fermat's Last Theorem by Simon Singh. A few months later, a friend of mine told me about a speech he was giving and he was signing his book in The Smithsonian Museum in DC. The name of his U.S. version book was called Fermat's Enigma. It seemed to be identical to his European book, and he just shrugged when I asked him about the book name-change at his book-signing. Go figure. Nice guy though. Knows how to write and speak. Why 25 pages longer in the Canadian (international?) version? You see, they don't have to replace all the big words with little ones, like they need to do in the US edition. ;P

Actually that can't be the case, since "eh" is shorter than "y'all" which would make the Canadian version shorter than the US one - not longer. As far as not liking acronyms like WPF, WWF and WCF we're fine with them but we can also understand and pronounce the bigger words. We don't have to hide behind acronyms to look smart or important. Nor do we have to put other people down in order to try and "appear" superior.
