Actually, it says 'not necessarily'. As far as I can see, the position has not changed since it wasn't legal for me to copy LPs to a cassette for my walkman. Ouch. I've been copying CDs to tape (for playing in the car), and LPs to tape and CD (for playing... anywhere, since i don't have a turntable anymore) for years, and wouldn't have guessed that it was illegal. Just think - if it wasn't for this noble organization, i might have gone my whole life not realizing what a lawbreaker i am...

I guess my point is, it's illegal, but unless you act in such a way that they're likely to catch you, it probably doesn't matter. Gay lovin' ( trying to remember that this is not the soapbox ) is illegal in this state as well, but no-one gets arrested. Why is it illegal ? I'm not sure. But, to me, this is a bit similar. The record companies want to make a point, but the fact is, my MP3 player contains the last 10 or so albums I bought, and there's no way they could ever find that out, so who cares ? AFIK--This is an RIAA position, not a legally accepted definition of fair use. Though that may change. The article notes that this is a change even in the RIAAs definition of fair use, and I hope that that inconsistancy bites them in the end. jim

I have been saying that all along. I think they have stock in headphone companies and are going to start making everyone listen to music through headphones. Speakers will be outlawed because they are clearly a violation of copyright due to their unlicensed broadcast nature :)
