hi, i am from bangalore,india. i am applying for job(for first time) in different companies.they ask me my expectation.i dont know. please help me.also please tell me what ctc means and also other jargons. i have been freelance sw developer,since BE, for 4 years in vc++ and have done around 4 software packages,for engineering applications, all alone, for govt orgs. i am very good in sw development and know several languages.i also heve exp in embedded systems. although i am be mech,i am equally good in all the 3 domains. -thanx. -vmmt
OK When applying for a job there are certain things to consider: * First of all: Don't think about how much you can earn, think how much you'll cost the company and if you'll be good enough to make it profitable for them. * I always try to dassel them with technical terms, this often proves you're in the business and you know your stuff, don't use expensive words or terms you don't know yourself. * You replied to another person in the thread that your language usage is good. Convince yourself that it is so and be critical. If they think your language isn't good, it's better to say you know it isn't good, but you're willing to improve rather then saying to them it is good. * During the interviews: look professional, stay calm and if you don't know the answer, say so, if you're not sure, but you're willing to guess: say so.

I agree with your suggestion Nish. Before I would submit my resume to anyone I'd have 3 different people look over it and make suggestions. (1) My wife. (2) Always get a former employer that you had a good relationship with to have a look at it. (This really helps). (3) A peer in your field of work with a background similar to yours. I'd add a fourth now as I've learned how important it is. But in America meet with someone in the H.R. department you want to work for and have them give you feedback before you submit your resume. It will get you visibility and it's just a smart thing to do. - Rex:rose:

guys, First of all,thanx for the response.Its just that its my first post to any sort of forum.I tried to cut the story and present the point but it obviously failed big time.Ok,I'll keep in mind that people around here dont really mind reading full sentences.:) Also,this bad-at-english thing gets a bit too personal and insulting in India(I guess Indians might understand that).;) I am not saying I am very good.I am good for India. Definitely not bad in any which way and needing improvement.:-D No hard feelings.Just thought of clearing up things.:cool:

I am from Trivandrum, India - and as far as I am concerned, I'd be happy if a fellow CPian native English speaker corrects my incorrect grammar for me. Well, I have a friend, a B.COM graduate with 6yrs exp in VC++ and he gets around 6.0 LPA. But remember, his 6 Yrs was in a company not freelancing. CTC - Cost to Company (Including all benifits and cuts). Notice Period - The time you will take to join the new company once you receive the appointment letter. This usually varies from 1 to 3 months depending on the company which you are leaving.
