One application I am already working on is a desktop app. where you download a whole genome(Human genome?) to your harddisk and then by selecting different options can "activate" genes, see in real time how long they are active, what they produce, how they interact. You could be looking into the information content of the DNA. Using statistical tools it is possible to predict if a stretch of DNA is garbage or not. It is like trying to decode a password. etc jhaga It would be glorious to see mankind at leisure for once. It is nothing but work, work, work. I cannot easily buy a blank-book to write thoughts in; they are commonly ruled for dollars and cents. A[man], seeing me making a minute in the fields, took it for granted that I was calculating my wages. — business! - I think that there is nothing, not even crime, more opposed to poetry, to philosophy, ay, to life itself, than this incessant business. I am in need to a graduation project idea. If anyone has any ideas about projects he did or he wanted to do please share it with me. I want an attractive project. We are a team of 5 developpers in the project and we will do it in about 1 year. My interests : dektop applications , mobile applications , service oriented ... I am not interested in: Speech and pattern recognition , webites. The programming lanuguage doesn't matter. Any ideas are welcomed. Thank You Assaad Abou-Samra

How about an encryption-replication engine for databases so that off site support/developers can maintain business applications without having access to sensitive data (medical records, credit card numbers etc.) '--8<------------------------ Ex Datis: Duncan Jones Merrion Computing Ltd

For my graduation project, I created a project called TestOracle to automatically generate source code for given webservice URL. http://testgen.tigris.org and Screenshots[^] . I've always wanted to extend it to support test data generation of C# & VB.net code. Much of the infrastructure is ready. When I wrote the app in 2002/2003, I had the choice of Java and vb.net (as c# was not installed on our university computers). This is an opensource project and I can give you access if you're interested.

Do something fun, it might be your last chance before getting a job. If I had the time I'd get involved in UPnP. Turn a CE or Win Mobile device into the next living room remote control, using standardized technology. WinXP already functions as a media server. You'll need a media renderer. You can buy one, but you might as well right the code yourself, and make another computer the renderer. Then turn the CE device into a media controller.

But simple address book applications are always fun. Actually with interests in desktop and mobile applications a web service is a perfect fit. Make a web service that yeild trivial, useless, yet funny data and implement applications that use the service across a variety of platforms. Imagine a webservice that uses TAPI to call a number provided and play an provided recording. Or maybe an emulator that emulates a desktop PC on a mobile platform so you can use a mobile platform to develop a desktop application. Really the main requirement for a graduation project beyond actually being functional is creativity. "Until the day of his death, no man can be sure of his courage" -- Jean Anouilh
