Given that my kid sister is looking over my shoulder, I'm forced to show uncharacteristic restraint. Let's just say that after all the years living the stereotypical rock & roll musician's life I didn't notice anything that was particularly unusual... ;)

I don't own an iPod because I don't like my music tied to single, proprietary devices, and thus have little interest in competitors of a similar nature. I was, nonetheless, compelled to check out www.ComingZune.com[^]after Chris' previous post. Why? Well, it probably has to do with a brief but, er, lively affair I had a few years back with a rather unbalanced and disturbed stripper who's stage name was Bunny (a period known to my friends as "The Bunny Wars"). In the interest of full disclosure, I didn't know she was a stripper when we met, and it only took me a few months to realize that the quicker I could jetison her, the quicker sanity would return to my life. And just how does this relate to a new music service from Microsoft? Well, not being the type to harbor a grudge, I was delighted to see that in spite of her psychological difficulties she was finally able to secure stable and permanent employment developing Flash animations for a major west coast software corporation. ComingZune.com? This was a joke, right?

I used to feel the same way, until I realized iTunes could burn a regular audio CD, which can of course then be ripped into MP3 format. Sure, they "only" let you burn like 7 copies, but once you do it once, it's out there. I'm listening to MP3's on my work PC right now that I bought off of iTunes at home a couple days ago. I'm sure the restrictions are something Apple had to do to appease the ignorant record labels, but Apple made sure the songs could easily and legally be unlocked.

Sounds like my ex - Except it took me 3 years to realise. :sigh: But I have to laugh now. She was a great manipulator. She almost had me believing that the failure of the engine on a cruise ship at the far end of the Mediterraian was my fault despite being 3000 miles away at the time. (Apparently, I didn't want to go on holiday with her and caused the largest cruise ship in the Med' to break just to get out of it.) It was that point that I had that eyes wide open feeling and I suddenly saw her for what she was. After we broke up I stayed with my parents for a couple of weeks. What was funnier was when she phoned to speak to me and my dad took great joy telling her she was a "Vaca loca" (Mad cow)

True enough. However, you're converting a compressed file format (i.e. lower quality audio) to a .wav file for burning onto CD, and then compressing it again (reducing quality even more) when you take it to mp3. When I buy CDs, they're studio quality, and if I rip them to mp3 at least I only take the compression hit once.
