I have take my mountian bike on many of the roads in North East Georgia for some 40 milers and everytime I did I wished I had a street bike.

If you're doing a lot of street or bike path riding, by all means get a road bike. I started out riding a hybrid (a Trek 730), and when I switched to a road bike (a Trek 1220) the difference was amazing. For me, the road bike was faster (about 2 mph worth) right off the bat due to the lighter weight, skinny tires, and different gear ratios. It was also a lot more comfortable. On the hybrid I had a mountain bike riding position, which is pretty upright. This mean my butt got tired and sore on rides longer than a couple of hours. The road bike has a much flatter position, with your weight balanced farther forward. Decent road bikes can be had for $600-$800. Mine was a close-out at a bike shop. They didn't have the right frame size in stock, but they had one in Kansas City. The disassembled the one in Kansas City, shipped it to my store in Dayton Ohio, reassembled it, and sold it to me for the close-out price, which I thought was realy .

I'm looking forward to it. By the way, what is your preference for Pizza? We'll make sure we get some of that in. :-D

I have a hybrid (Schwinn Badlands). I recently bought thinner road tires for it, which helped a lot, but the components are crap so I get into trouble shifting on some steeper hills. I'm looking at buying a Trek 1200, or comparable, after my first 1000 miles which should be around Christmas.

Indeed. I quit smoking on January 1, 1991. I started running and bicycling the next year. The first couple of years I had one overuse injury after another. Shin splints, Achilles tendonitis, stress fractures, and bruised meniscus in my knees. I was complaining to my doctor, and he explained it to me. He told me I had an addictive personality, and had substituted a positive addiction for a negative one. He said his goal was to help my body survive the 'breaking-in' period of my new addition so that I could continue feeding it :). Fifteen years later, it's still working. I've run over 10,000 miles in that time, and ridden probably 5,000 miles. I would like to ride more than I do, but I'm a sissy about riding in poor weather.

:( I tried to mountain bike in S. Florida and I just couldn't do it, too much pain, so no more biking for me. So I gave away my beloved schwinn mesa le. (I put the police tires on it and it did wonders in the city when I lived in Savannah)

Why go through the hassle of bottles? Just put the keg above head level, and use a tube... ;)

The mental picture there brings back college memories. My school had a spring festival day called 'May Daze', emphasis on the 'daze'. I remember seeing a bunch of guys with a funnel and a piece of tubing, using it to drink entire pitchers of beer at one time :omg:.

I tried getting into kickboxing, weightlifting and running in the past year and I grew tired of all of them. So far, cycling seems to be the most promising for me. I can ride socially as well as solo. It's also the only activity I enjoyed enough to quit smoking for. It's been 12 days. :)
