Postal code question

Here in the US we have Postal(Zip) Codes in the format of 12345-1234. The first 5 are required, and the last 4 help further sort for individual destinations. Called "Zip plus four". Anyway, I know Canadian codes are usually 6, but have come across a 15 character zip code field and was wondering if there was perhaps a system similar to our Zip+4. I couldn't see anything on Canada Post suggesting another system. Any other countries have use for a 15 character postal code?

If you are working on a system that records postal codes make it optional or let it contain a good number of characters and don't go assuming your ten year old postal code database knows better than people who live in the area. :)

H0H-0H0 Is the postal code of Santa Claus. Full address : Santa Claus 1 North Pole Canada H0H-0H0 ;) BTW, this really works, around christmas time, children can send mail to that address, and some postal workers will relay the mail to Santa, and he will answer back.

-- Steven WrightBrian, Could you reproduce it for us? Canada only has 6 digits... going in order from bigger area in the first digit/letter to your actual street in the last digit. Ontario (11 million people) have PCs starting with K,L,M,N,P (no vowels). Boy... aren't postal codes just the most exciting things to read about? LOL Chad

Must be an age thing. When I need a US zip code for a web site... I always put in 60609... which was the zip code that was mentioned in all the "markson Goodson" Tv game shows like "Let's make a deal" and that nonsense that we watched as kids. Now it is 90210... makes sense! Chad

I suppose they might have been allowing for future expansion, there are no design docs of course.

That's what I thought. As far as reproducing, I have no actual data, just the field definition allows for 15.

Contrary to quaint sayings, Paul, the customer is not always right, nor does mother always know best. If the computer says your code is in invalid, then it clearly is invalid. You know it's freethinkers like yourself what make this business so difficult sometimes. :sigh: Seriously, though, you make a good point. Our product is currently only in NA, but I will keep Waterford in mind if I work any more global products in the future.
