I think the Laptop user used Windows ME for the OS. The laptop had no other go other than the suicide. :(

Dude, he got a Dell. I wouldn't worry about it, besides this is the first incident(don't quote me on that), because to my understanding computer are not designed to blow up. As long as you dont hear events like this everyday, you'll live. Another good point is that if you get hurt (and live) you could sue them, isn't that fun! Maybe this was a cover up, he could have been watching so much XXX movies the pc couldn't handle it. ........THATS LIFE!

You have so much more chances of getting killed in a road accident ...and anyway a laptop burning in itself cant be fatal

This may be an old news[^]but still I'm worried about it. once I have read a news that mobile phone explodes while talking. ( I think the news reported from Chennai). Laptops, Mobile phones and other gadgets like MP3 players are part of our life. But these are selling without minimum quality. Even the best ones available in market are still having problems? How safe they are?:~

These incidents are often user error - and this is not the first. Some people buy cheap replacement batteries, some buy different type of batteries - sold on the fact they are lighter/longer life etc. These non-standard barreries have been known to go - erm - violent. I have an tiny R/C helicopter that uses a very tiny, lightweight battery. The helicopter and all workings weight around 20g. Problem with tiny, lightweight batery? Pierce it (even slightly - maybe with a screwdriver when doing repairs) and it will explode with enough force to smash a nearby glass!

--- How to get answers to your questions[^]

probably not, but they surely could use that as an ad to bust their sales up

Well duh! Despite what Shakespeare said("What's in a name?..."), Windows ME is all about its name: Windows Mistake Edition.

                          > to my understanding computer are not designed to blow up What kinda of reassurance is that? A lot of things that do, aren't.
