Somehow true, but one more thing is there ball tampering allegation a very serious issue and you must be very much sure prior to raise that.

Yeah, that's where Hair screwed himself - there was absolutely zero TV evidence of ball tampering. And it was very strange that Hair chose to risk making a hard-to-prove accusation.

Since when has there needed to be TV footage before an umpire can enforce a rule?

Can't agree Nish, I think he took his job seriously and applied the rules as strictly as they were written, none of this 18 degree bending crap. I'm assuming that now the laws will be rewritten to state that tampering with anything short of a power tool will be acceptable and if your from the Asian nations small handyman level power tools will be acceptable. It's a joke and until such times as white teams are forced to bat 6 bowlers at the top of the order, then a blind armless man as the wicket keeper and finally 4 batsmen as the bowlers the Asian teams won't be happy. As for the ICC they won't be happy until the Asian teams tell them they can be. Reverse racism gone stupid. On the other hand, Gary Kirsten was found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute by wearing a colorful bandana with white clothing and was fined 10% of his match fee[^] :wtf:

        Cheers, Vikram.

The only thing consistent about the ICC has been their constant inconsistency in such decisions.

This is changing my perception about him. Pakistan is not new for ball tamperings. They've been doing it for decades. I thought this would be just another instance of it and this guy is genuine. But now I'm :~. My favourite umpires are Shepherd & Billy Bowden<-- this guy is too cool man!

Oh yeah. I hate to fall back to blaming umpires but he is the first umpire I have ever thought to be biased against certain teams and to make decisions on that bias. Any Springbok (or Protea) captain would groan when he heard Hair was to be the umpire for their game. Hair has made some disparaging remarks about South African players too. All in all not someone I like.

Why? Cause he wouldn't take bribes?

Not Ponting, that'd be Lee. Though as his captain, Ponting may be held responsible too.

He's the only one on the international scene that I know of and he is shithouse. In the past I have had no problem with any of the Kiwi umps. The only one in the past couple of years I had a problem with is Bucknor and that is only cause I think he is past his best and making some very poor decisions. Some for and some against Australia, but too many for soemone at his level.

No, but the ICC and umpires now give different treatment to the 4 nations I mentioned compared to the rest. It will now be worse and all involved will be worried about being called racist. It's crap.

If Australia tampered with the all and was caught by a Pakistani umpire Ricky Ponting would be publicly raped by a telegraph pole and the Paki umpire given his 72 virgins in advance. <edit>Shit, I can't even spell raped correctly.</edit> -- modified at 13:56 Thursday 28th September, 2006

There's a mind numbingly stupid term.

I think he let his country down badly - and I am immensely surprised that the Pak Cricket board didn't punish him for this. As for poor Hair, looks like his umpiring career is finished - he was a good umpire, but he has some attitude issues, and at times it felt as if he thought that he was the Don Bradman of umpires and could treat an international game like a children's match played in his back yard. *But* in future, umpires will be at a disadvantage - I doubt if anyone would dare to raise a ball tampering allegation from now on - unless they want to risk facing the same hassles Hair had to. Not good obviously. Overall, some peculiar decisions by the ICC (which is consistent with how they've behaved in the past).

                                  Regards, Nish

There will never be a winner in this and the only loser is the game of cricket. Its really sad its come to this. I cant wait for the season to start here, going to be a long summer of cricket :)

The stats tell a different story[^]. Towards the end of the article, you can see a list of playing nations with the number of punishments.  Pakistan heads the list.
