I'd like to buy a new laptop. At present which one has good performance, better reliability and expandability finally on price :)

Currently it's a fast machine. When the Core 2 Duo's come out it will be even nicer, so that's a bonus. Also: good battery life, good features such as bluetooth, Wifi, fast HDD, nice screen, the slot-loading DVD drive (why doesn't everyone do this?), the magentically coupled power cable (good safety feature), lightweight, and very slim. But most of all: because it was designed with class. It wasn't designed by engineers or geek boys. The thing has style.

Thinkpad is the best one. Got heck a lot of features around it. But the last one I had got heated up like an oven. I hate it when it starts to heat up. But all other features are really good. Now I have an Acer Travelmate. It's a low end notebook but decent enough. only 256 MB Ram :( though. But the wonder is it never gets heated up. Superb cool!!! very light too. I run it all the day but it cares a damn about the heat. But anyway I'm ordering a Dell Inspiron 6400 this month. just 700 USD. Damn good configuration. Core 2 Duo, 1 GB ram, Dual Layer DvD writer, 80 GB Sata. 15" wide screen. what else you want more?:->. Go for Dell it's quite affordable. If you have a heavy wallet, go for Thinkpads.. they are the best. may be the newer ones come with a better heat sink mechanism.

I suppose to use it for development purpose under windows and playing some new age games too. I heard that we can load Windows XP in Mac Notebooks and PC because it's using Intel Processors inside. Will this cope with the graphics features or can I play some New Age Games or can i develop or Learn something in Direct 3D using this notebook?

You'd have to have two partitions. You'd use BootCamp (the Apple boot manager) to dual boot the machine into either OS X or WinXP. But yes, the video card and the processor will both run your WinXP based games just fine. :)

And I get on my knees and pray. We don't get fooled again.

Definitly Toshiba and their core 2 duo series. You pay a little more, but you get some fine machinery for that money :)

So the rumours are saying. There's also a bit of noise about people wanting better graphics cards in them and I'm hoping Apple will see the opportunity in getting on the 'Vista capable' bandwagon. Who knows. Evidently the beasts will be available by the end of November.

i love my ASUS W2Z laptop. I was sold on the 17.1 inch widescreen (1680x1050), P4 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 7200rpm 40GB HDD, DVD+-RW, but even more so on the sheer elegance of it. It has a carbon-graphite backing to the screen, and a brushed steel finish, and its won industrial design awards. It looks beautiful! I've recently had a problem with it and found that the local ASUS support is not good. Took my system for over a week and only ran some minor tests that had very little to do with the issue - still not resolved. Got it back today, but i plan to elevate the issue. The only real down side to the W2Z is the cost - about AU$ 4,500. But its worth it ;) Certainly a well put together system, meticulously designed. nicko
