Anybody else getting sick of the people who think they are ever so clever and witty, and are forever trying their wit out on the unfortunate people they encounter? True reconteurs or persons of great wit are rare... I have met maybe two in my life, along with several millions wannabes. It seem like a malady of the youngish male.

yep, you must be talking about all the intellects on CP, who seem to know everything about... everything

You don't see a WTF in spawning hundreds of threads ?? Or using code found on places like codeproject.com in production applications ... Code that is most likely untested, or barely test, more often than not, not made by reputable developers/development groups/etc ?? .... Wow ...---WTF

I've met many people who are witty (wit light?) but very few with a great wit. I takes time to grow into real wit. I have noticed many young people are ready to substitute a fart joke for wit. "We cannot have a battle of wits good sir, I won't battle someone who is unarmed!" Joe Q

:-D :-D :-D Age likely has some effect upon a person's wit, since your life experiences are age based. But timing of when to expose your wit is so much more a skill.

Agreed, people should understand where they are on the wit-o-meter. I haven't noticed that age has anything to do with it, but more a sense of timing, delivery and confidence. Well, not to forget, something actually witty to say doesn't hurt.

Varinder, Well the phenomena isn't limited to CodeProject, although I'd venture to say that many people here are not nearly as witty or clever as they might imagine. Take any thread, on any forum like CodeProject or others, and many of the reply posts are people who imagine themselves to be very clever and witty. I guess every once in a while I get tired of scrolling through all these so-called "witty" posts. And yesterday it made me try and recall the truly witty people I know--the list is pretty short. IMO there are various degrees of wit. With practise everyone can improve. Yes that may result in a few dud remarks here and there... but even if only 5/10 remarks are highly entertaining (bear in mind eveyone has a different sense of humour), that doesn't mean they should hold back if they have something to say (and potentially lower on the wit-scale). The lounge is a relaxed place.. so any effort to liven the place up is welcome. Have you noticed that wisecracks often promote further conversation or give someone else a set-up for another joke? But I agree with your one point: those with true wit are few, and they probably lean towards a career as a comedian, not programming. :)
