Web hosting recommendations?
-
Howdy lounge lizards, I'm about to emabark on a fun side project involing SharePoint and some .Net development, and I was wondering if anyone had any positive recommendations on hosting services? I would prefer to support an Australian host if they are affordable with good service, or international if it is more cost effective with their support worth the time zone hassles. And on a side note, SharePoint looks really really cool. Any one had the dis/pleasure of working with it? - Phil (And with Chris' help, I recently discovered I had two Code project accounts, so I picked the one with my real name, but now my message posting count is way lower :) )
I like www.1and1.com[^]. I haven't tried their Windows hosting (because I'm a Unix and proud of it), but their pricing is nice and I've never had a problem with them. If you're concerned about support hours, It's 24/7, but they do have a UK site (www.1and1.co.uk[^]) also. I know it's not Australian, but their hours may be closer to your schedule.

I've generally had very good experience with Australian host Quadra hosting[^]. They use Hsphere control panel. Email support (no phone). And for US hosting I've had mostly great experience with discountasp.net[^]. Very good control panel (their own) & good support (only used email, but I think they have phone too). BTW, not related to Michael are you? :)

I had a shared windows server from www.1and1.co.uk[^], and now have a dedicated windows box, and I'm very happy with them. I had to phone support a couple of times while it was being set up and they were knowledgeable and helpful. They also have www.1and1.com[^] which is US-biased, but I believe they're a German company originally.

I've used them a little and have the same experience. Elaine :rose:

Thanks for that Nicholas, exactly the information I was after. Sending them some emails now :) I wonder if they allow three referrals instead of one during ordering... - Phil

Thanks Elaine, 1on1 seems to be the consensus at the moment.

They look really affordable, which is great for an Australian company. Do you know if Quadra support Shrepoint hosting in some way? - Phil

Thanks Jon. They also look very affordable, and they are the only provider so far that have gone to great lengths to say what versions of share point they use, what their plan is with newer versions. It is very good to see. - Phil

I've been using netnation.com for years. They have increased the features of their plans while dropping prices over the years. The one thing they don't currently support on their Linux platforms is PHP with Server API (they still use CGI). They are based in Vancouver Canada Steve

I'm not sure about sharepoint. BTW their servers are actually in Sydney, unlike some Aus web hosts that actually host off servers based in US. So nice speedy local access.
